Sunday night is fine. Whats a good time?
Should be back early afternoon, so just about any time should work for me. Want to target 8-ish for now? I'll probably be on and around early like last time so we can start whenever you're ready.
8 sunday is perfect....Cya then.

Vader, Saturday night should be swell. I was on last night, but I had a lot of interruptions past 9pm, so it wouldn't have been ideal.

Injuries obliterate Raider backfield against Chiefs

Image

In all my years of playing and watching football, I've never seen a game like this one.

In the first quarter, Oakland tailback Darren McFadden was lost for the game with a hip pointer.

Several snaps later, backup Justin Fargas was lost for 4 weeks with a torn labrum. If the Raiders manage to advance far into the playoffs, he MIGHT come back for the AFC Championship.

Then, just before halftime, Michael Bush went down with an unspecified injury.

This actually left the Raiders with NO running backs on the roster that could carry the football. The only other player that could be substituted in was the fullback, and he always played fullback, so I had no idea what would happen.

The Chiefs were having a magnificent time with it, too. Without Oakland being able to run and pound away, and seemingly out of sorts, KC pulled into a 2nd quarter 14-14 tie after trailing 14-0 on Oakland's first two possessions before running backs started dropping like flies.

Larry Johnson was ripping off big runs (a 49 yarder early in the game), and Matt Cassel was threading laser-like passes downfield past defenders' outstretched hands:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Raiders knew they were in trouble, and started probing for any other strategy that would work. The complete inability to run the football was a huge hurdle to cross.

Thankfully, QB Dane Morrow picked up the slack and shouldered the burden of willing his team to victory, completing 20 of 26 passes for 371 yards and 4 touchdowns without a turnover. The Raiders were throwing almost every down for a while, as they had no running game to even attempt a running play. Empty backfields, shotgun formations, and just about any passing play you can think of were in use, but they struggled at the goal line (naturally), kicking a pair of field goals for a 20-14 halftime lead.

Morrow uncorked a bomb to Darrius Heyward-Bey on the first possession of the second half to make it 27-14, and then Cassel's first turnover happened:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Thomas Howard stepped in front of a late Cassel pass and took it to the house for a 34-14 lead and all the momentum. One play later, Morrow found Heyward-Bey singled up on Brandon Flowers AGAIN, and threw his 2nd TD in as many passes for a 41-14 victory and the rout was on.

KC loved all the deep passes and decided to go after Raiders safety Michael Huff...which is generally considered a bad idea by most folks when he has the little blue ring under him.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

With the game well in hand, Oakland received the best news of the day, as Michael Bush returned from changing his tampon and was able to carry the ball in the 4th quarter to try to seal the game.

But the strangest play of the season occurred then as well. Apparently, the 4th running back on the roster is the backup tight end, because I didn't notice that Bush got tired and was auto-subbed out of the game. Rookie TE gamebreaker Cameron Jackson was suddenly lined up in the backfield.

Now, Jackson has great speed, but he's no running back. He had zero carries in his season so far (for obvious reasons), and this is the first carry of his NFL career:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Talk about a weapon--even if the play was completely accidental and unexpected. The guy's too fast for linebackers, and apparently too fast for the secondary as well (not to mention the safety had the angle but completely whiffed when he could have simply pushed him out of bounds...poor Chiefs). But he juked Page out of his jock on that run, so the guy's got ability. The dynamic rookie could end up as "Weapon X" in Oakland's attack as the Raiders offense evolves.

In the end, Oakland had absolutely everything go wrong early in this game, but weathered the storm, adjusted to an air-happy attack, and walked out of Arrowhead stadium with a 55-17 victory.

They'll face the streaking Broncos in Denver next week, as Denver is pushing all the right buttons and defeated the Titans in week 14. This will be the 2nd matchup this season where Denver comes in against the Raiders red-hot. Can they pull off the upset?

Sounds good, looking forward to it.

Had an offline franchise game last night where everything went right offensively and the passing game finally clicked for me as I ended up getting 5 tds passing in the first half and was still able to get over 300 yards rushing with Willie Parker and 5 rushing tds from my running backs. :)

Cowboys squeak by Eagles 21-14

This was definitely the cpu game I was supposed to lose. This was the game where all the unbelievable stuff happens and you start to feel the odds are stacked against you and you don't have any control over it.

The game began with the Cowboys marching down the field on one of their patented long drives resulting in a Marion Barber TD run. 7-0.

Then Kerry Collins turned into Joe Montana/Drew Brees/Brett Favre. He completely baffled the Cowboys secondary all the way down the field for a quick answer. 7-7

The Cowboys took the kickoff and on the 2nd play, Romo's screen pass was picked out of the air and returned for a TD. 14-7 Eagles. You had to see it to believe how it was done. Let's just say I have never seen anything like it. The ball literally was suctioned onto the linebacker's hands and never looked like it should have been picked. 14-7 Eagles.

That's when the sinking feeling kicked in. That feeling that says it doesn't matter how well you play, the cpu is going to steal this game.

Three more times Dallas would get deep into Eagles territory only to see Romo throw three more picks each time they threatened. There was yet another oddity in the 3rd quarter as Romo had a wide open Miles Austin streaking across the field only to have a linebacker jump what had to be 10 feet in the air and pull it out of the sky. Romo would later throw a 5th interception and that was about the time that I decided that the only way I was going to win this game was to do it on the ground.

Tashard Choice then broke off a 50 yard run to tie the game and Dallas would eventually get the ball back with 6 minutes to go and Marion Barber would score what would be the winning TD with 1:40 to go. 21-14 Dallas.

The Eagles would drive but finally the Cowboys D was able to get a 4th down stop and preserve the win.

This was just one of those games that had screwjob written all over it and I guess I should be thankful to get out with a win.

Texans 37, Jags 14

JACKSONVILLE - Under a sweltering 92 degree sky, Houston kick returner Brian "Black Lightning" Witherspoon decided to add his own bit of heat. Witherspoon took the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, one of two special teams touchdowns that helped the Texans rout Jacksonville, 37-14.

The Texans put the lowly Jaguars down early, running out to a 24-0 lead. After a one-yard touchdown plunge by Steve Slaton made it 17-0, the Texans scored again on the ensuing kickoff:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Fred Bennett leveled the returner and jarred the ball loose, allowing Leon McNeal to scoop up the fumble and hop his way to a touchdown. The Jaguars added a late touchdown before the half, but Houston moved quickly to kick a field goal as the second quarter expired, making it 27-7 at halftime.

Things held steady in the third quarter. The Texans had a drive cut short by an acrobatic interception from mammoth Jacksonville defensive tackle John Henderson:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

After being knocked to the ground, the hefty Henderson got to his feet in time to pick off a wounded duck from Schaub. Once again, Schaub was under pressure, being sacked three times (one forcing a fumble) and harassed by the Jacksonville blitz. But Houston out-pressured the Jaguars, using a much more aggressive blitzing scheme to rack up five sacks.

The Texans finally put the game completely out of reach with this fourth quarter throw from Schaub to tight end Owen Daniels to make it 34-7:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Schaub finished 17-23 for 253 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and one fumble. Receive Andre Johnson hauled in six of those passes for 104 yards, and running back Steve Slaton had 23 carries for 99 yards and a touchdown.

The Texans host rival Tennessee next week, while Jacksonville faces the Chargers.

The Panthers destroyed Cleveland tonight in Carolina. This was not the usual Cleveland team for some reason. No run D, well no D what so ever. The offense was flat, no receivers could get open and an early deficit put all the weight on the young Quinn's shoulders. He fell flat on his face.

42-7 was the final!

Good game Gamer, you could have put up 84 on me if you chose to!

The Browns prove they are still the mediocre team from one of the worst sports towns in history

Panther defeat Browns

The Carolina Panther scored early and often against the Cleveland Brown in this inter-conference match up. The Panthers moved to 10-4 on the strength of RB Jonathon Stewart who continues to impress. This performance by Stewart, while not his best of the season, shows why the coaching is comfortable with him going into the playoffs. The back scored four touchdowns on 29 rushes for 171 yards. Stewart had a heavy workload as the Panthers coaching staff went strictly run offense with a large lead going into the third quarter. In the first half Stewart was assisted in the offense by WR Steve Smith who caught all four of his passes in the first half. The receiver accumulated 107 yards receiving and scored a touchdown on a WR screen pass that went for 28 yards. Smith also had a 46 yard reception that was stopped at the one yard line.

The Panthers defense frustrated Browns QB Brady Quinn, forcing the young QB into five interceptions. Two of the picks were made by Panthers rookie DB A. Jones, and Beason, Gamble , and Godfrey also added picks with Godfrey's being returned 93 yards for a third quarter score in a game that was already out of reach. The Panthers defensive bookends Brown and Peppers were able to sack Quinn once apiece. Quinn was able to complete one TD pass to WR B.Robiskie for 58 yards as he was able to read the one time that the Panthers defense decided to blitz. It wasn't a good day for Quinn as he was 10 of 23 for 129 yards passing.

The telling stat of the game was the disparity in time of possession as the Panthers won the battle holding the ball for 34:58 minutes. The Browns also struggled on 3rd downs going 1 for 8, while the Panthers went 8 for 11. Panthers also won the turnover battle 5-2.

The Panthers now move on to face the New Orleans Saints in a game that should clinch the division and a playoff spot, followed by the St. Louis Rams to finish the regular season. With a lot of help the Panthers may be able to squeeze into a first round bye in the playoffs, which would be just short of miraculous considering their 0-3 start.

The 10-4 Browns will recover from this loss and move on to face the Baltimore Ravens, which will probably not be a pretty sight for the Baltimore faithful in this tense rivalry.

Nozz, good game and good luck going forward. You're going to be tough matchup in the playoffs.

Jets escape Heinz Field with a hard-fought 24-21 win against the Steelers.

Gang Green held the Steelers to a three-and-out to open the action, then took a long, slow drive down the field that culminated in a 33-yard TD pass to Brad Smith for a 7-0 lead.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

...but the Steelers answered back with 14 unanswered points on the ground to go into halftime up 14-7:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Jets lucked out near the start of the third, forcing a fumble and running it back for a touchdown to tie matters. A rare big-play for Thomas Jones gave NY the 21-14 lead:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Jets would add on a field goal after a pick of Roethlisberger, capping a bit 17-point third quarter that put them up 24-14 heading into the 4th. The Steelers refused to quit, however, continuing to find end zone with their running game:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Jets managed to make some big third down conversions in the final stretch to kill the clock and eek out the three point victory. The two Steelers turnovers to the Jets' zero turned out to be the key.

Excellent game, vader. So nice to play a human again... I was feeling severely outclassed at at times in that game.

Chicago Bears 9 - Washington Redskins 44

Images of the famed T-formation were running through the heads of the Redskins coaches as the 2nd place NFC East team entered Soldier Field and demolished the home-standing Bears by a whopping 44-9 margin.

Despite beginning with good tidings as the two owners were actually able to connect, after months and months of frustration trying to do so, the game ended up marred by a 4th quarter freeze-up by Rob with the score 41-3. Rob conceded that I should finish v. CPU rather than chance an attempt tomorrow night.

The rust against human opponents was showing for the Bears, as a few critical errors and plenty of bad luck plagued the home team early in the game (such as the old 'become the guy and try to make the sack - oops, I'm the safety and I'm diving to the ground'). After the Skins took advantage of some sloppy defending to take a 7-0 lead early on, Devon Hester's kickoff return for a TD was called back because of a holding penalty, and looking back, that pretty much ended the competitive portion of the game.

The Redskins scored 24 points in a crazy 2nd quarter, including an 82yd pick-6 by Carlos Rogers, two TD runs for Clinton Portis, one of which was 44 yds, and a Lawrence Tynes FG as time expired where the offense, after another Bears turnonver, pulled a Titans Super Bowl by getting right to the goal line but not quite in as the clock ran down. But these Skins had the time out in the back pocket that allowed them to get the 3pts.

Jay Cutler ended the day with a woeful 30.7 rating, throwing 4 INTs and 0 TDs, and being sacked 5 times, including three times in a row in the 4th quarter. Jason Campbell was not sacked all afternoon, and he finished with a 141.4 rating, going 11-18 for 222yds and 2 TDs with 0 INTs.

The 10-4 Redskins who (I do believe) have now clinched a Wildcard spot will head home to face the NY Giants who beat them in the Meadowlands in week 10, while the NFC North Champion Bears will try to regroup by going on the road to beautiful Miami to face the Dolphins (CPU or Jared? Who can say?)

Highlights will follow.

Rob, I don't know what to say. There was so much rust chipping off of you that I think my hands are still gritty. The INTs were bad, but that holding call on the kickoff return really did end up having a lasting effect. Although the INTs were probably more important. At least we could connect and chat again after so long. I hope our connection problems are done. Good luck getting ready for the playoffs, and I expect a much sharper performance if we meet again in the post season!

Bah! I'm not playing enough outside the league to be able to hang with human owners this year. :( I put an effort in to play more extra-league games for a bit and had some success, but I can't bring myself to play single-player Madden when there are glories like Assassins Creed 2 and ME3 calling my name LOL

I have very fragile Madden skills...
