Fun race last night. Terry wasn't around, but at least Sim was there to put us all in our place and win by 20 seconds.
Spooky had some fun battles for 2nd place. Spooky was generally faster than me, usually braking later for corners than me. In the end though, my iceman approach of no mistakes driving found me ahead by a few seconds on lap 19.
Sounds like everyone had a good time, and I can't be sure about this, but did I hear that Zeppo was having some struggles?![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Great fun last night guys, despite the screw up and the late start. Plus that freeze in the first practice once I was there. It's weird that FIFA is the only guy who couldn't get in.
I'm glad everyone had a great time, and it seems like there was some good racing going on out there throughout the entire race. Here are the results:
Now, I don't know what cars finished on the lead lap and who had to continue on (stupid game). And the photo I took of the results I had myself highlighted (therefore in red) and the Gap Time itself was red and over that piece of grass in the background that combination is making it impossible for me to see the first two digits of the Gap Time for myself.
I don't know what my problem is. Maybe it was the fact that I only ran about four laps of practice, but I just couldn't move fast at all. I really don't know where I was screwing up so bad, but maybe whoever it was that suggested I messed up my controls too much was right. Or maybe I just can't drive in this game. What's weird is that in the Poker Night last week, I was doing alright in the middle of the pack and actually racing several different people on occasion. But last night, i was clearly the slowest, by a long, long margin, and that just makes it hard for me to enjoy the game. The only cars I saw after the first lap were guys lapping me. We'll see if it gets any better, but I'm serious, I may not play the game much more if it's not going to be fun for me.
I don't want to win every race, but I'd like to be able to race some other cars once in a while after the first turn. On the other hand, everyone else seemed to have a lot of fun in this longer race.
I'm glad everyone else had such a good time once we had the room up and working. It does seem like we can do these longer races and they will be fun. If folks want to continue, we can try out a short three or four race series in the Minis, leading to a longer series in the WTCCs.
It's a real shame about this lack of checkered flag. Since there's no 0:30 timer at the end of the race, we can still complete long races and get results for everyone, but it's pretty annoying to have to toodle around that extra lap (or two in my case). I'd have to do a better job keeping track of who is a lap down when we finish, because there should be no Gap Time for them in the timing, it should just be +1 lap, or whatever. +2 for me.![Evil or Very Mad ](./images/smilies/icon_evil.gif)
PS I wish I knew how to make a table for the results so they can be spaced more legibly. This thing doesn't pay attention to tabs and even if I erase the tabs and add spaces it's still all jumbled.

@Zeppo: If you can afford it and you really want to enjoy this game I seriously recommend getting the 360 wheel. If makes taking turns much easier and faster as you don't end up jaggedly sawing your way through each one. After I spent some time getting used to the way the cars handle it was like night and day for me. Its also much easier to finesse the pedals when they are at your feet instead of using the triggers.

$89.99 seems like a good deal to me but maybe you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

@ Everyone else...
The replays have been uploaded and are currently being "processed" by Youtube. I had some fun with the first couple minutes of the Curitiba race (race #1) before I uploaded that one. The main issue with the replays is its tough to get an idea who you're watching because the quality on the capture is low. It certainly helps if everyone is driving a different colored car so maybe we'll pick a color and number for everyone next week (Hogz and me were both driving Team Spicy #10). I added some minor subtitles to the first race just so people would know who they were watching. Also sorry if the jumping around from car to car gets confusing or annoying to watch. It's tough to know where the action is when you're forced to sequentially jump through position. I tried to focus mainly on the 2nd, 3rd place action between Naples and Spooky but everyone gets some "camera time" at some point
I'll post them here once Youtube is finished processing...

Looking forward to seeing your vids Mac. Very cool that you put in a few minutes to get those up.
Zeppo, it was me who said maybe you FUBAR'd your controls with too much tweaking. This is just my approach to things, but generally I don't touch any slider, control setting, car setup, etc, until I've had a lot of time with a game and had a chance to adjust to the game itself. Better to accept and adjust to what the game is and then make minor adjustments than to pull your hair out trying to make the game exactly what you want it to be in your head.
I'm racing controller defaults except deadzone raised from 5% to 10% because sometimes my analog stick naturally rests ever so slightly to the left.

I don't know, Mac. The wheel won't fix this problem, and I don't really have a good place to set it up. Plus the stup/breakdown time is too much of a PIA for me to want to get into it. This game more than any other really makes me want to get one, but I'm not going to do it.
To figure out how many laps to run, I ran a handful in Time Trial mode over the weekend and was into the 1:35s with ease, no problem at all. Last night in the race even when I ran clean laps, I couldn't break under 1:43. And in the short second race, I was way behind as well after the first corner, despite qualifying right in the middle.
Maybe I am damaging my engine before the start. I used to do that all the time in TOCA, over-rev the engine on the grid and immediately damage it. The problem here is that there is no indicator of damage at all. I did select 'repair' the first time I went into the pits, but that didn't get my top speed at the end of the straight any higher. And of course, it didn't add fuel so I had to pit again.
It does seem like at least in the Minis, the half-hour races won't require artificially mandated pit stops because fuel consumption will force people to stop.

Oh, it'll be fun. But make no mistake, Adam is The Man.macsomjrr wrote:btw I'd love to see Terry race against GB_Simo after his run away win last night. Hopefully we'll get to watch that matchup sometime
No real question about it. In everything we run, he's always faster.
Glad you guys had fun, though. Family drama sucks.
Id like to see it for myself. The guy who is always faster. Even if it will only be viewable by blue dots.TCrouch wrote:Oh, it'll be fun. .
He was pretty damn fast last night...Though not quite fast enough as he couldnt lap me.
![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
That was damn good fun...Im looking forward to the next longie or a short series...which ever you boyzz decide..Count me in.
Well, it shall be a mystery, I guess. Before heading to work (stupid night calls, especially when it's cold out!), I just ran a short race at Curitiba and despite it not being very pretty, I had a fast lap of 1:35.295. Even my first lap, from a standing start, was sub-1:40. So, I don't know what was going on last night, I guess I just had an awful night where I couldn't drive at all, or maybe there was engine damage or something like that going on. I ran some fine, clean laps last night but nothing quicker than the 1:43, so it's really strange.
I won't throw the game in the toilet, I promise!
So is anyone else interested in a Monday Night MLR league or series? Mondays are best for me because, while I can't guarantee I will be able to race, they tend to be the early days of the week. If people are interested, should we stick with the Minis for a short three race series, or should we jump right to the WTCC cars?

Yes please! Monday is fine with me. I wouldn't mind moving up to something faster than the Minis but I'm OK sticking with them for a couple weeks if that's what everyone wants to do.Zeppo wrote:So is anyone else interested in a Monday Night MLR league or series? Zeppo, don't give up. Something is up with last night, because last week you were one of the fastest. I would put everything back to default and see what happens.

What Terry kindly failed to mention in his post is the sheer number of NASCAR Racing 2003 schoolings he's handed out to me, and that the only time we've raced cars anything like the ones we used last night, on rFactor's European Touring Car mod, he had the edge. Hope everything is alright at your end, mate.
I don't necessarily think that a Race Pro race with he and I in it would automatically be a battle between us two. Until the very late stages Naples' consistency kept him close enough that he'd have taken the lead had I messed up, and Spooky's best lap time was right in there (Spooky also had the quickest sector one at Anderstorp, if I remember right). For reasons I'm yet to fathom I wasn't blisteringly quick in absolute terms last night, but if that turns out to be as quick as I can go online, there are people in this thread more than capable of matching that.
Mac, looking forward to those videos, mate.
Zep, there is a damage indicator for engine trouble, or at least the manual says there is, so if you're not seeing a spanner or a temperature gauge above your tach, your starts aren't hurting anything. Following you around and off the last corner late in the race, it seemed the engine was picking up alright but you came off the corner what must have been 10 mph down on me and only Dick Dastardly could recover that down a straight; on those long straights at Curitiba, a slow corner exit costs you bundles of time. Whether the control issues are cause, symptom or red herring I don't know, and I sure as hell can't explain why you're quicker again today, but from what I'd saw I'd bet your limited straightline speed was caused by limited cornering speed.

My vote would be that we stick with the Mini Cooper's for a few more races. I like the minis because they are so forgiving compared to some of the faster beasts in the game and for those of us that aren't racing gurus we can actually be competitive in them (well... kinda). The WTCC's are OK but it'll take some practice before I can even complete a lap without spinning out in a Radical SR3s!
Replay update: Not sure what is going on with Youtube. Two of the movies are still "Uploading - processing please wait" while the others uploaded without any issue overnight. The videos I'm still waiting for are Race 1 Part 1 at Cutiriba (its a four parter, max movie length for youtube is 10mins) and the entire Race 2 at Anderstorp (approx 7 mins).

Finally! I ended up canceling the uploads and retrying and they immediately went up. Weird...
Anyway here is Race #1 from last night at Cutiriba. Please forgive the cheesy opening I was just having too much fun screwing around with iMovie
The full race was around 30 minutes long so I had to chop it up into 4 parts. I've posted them in order below. Enjoy!

Race #2 (10 racers) - @ Anderstorp
Overall this race was much more tightly contested with GB_Simo taking the PP and first place. The final couple turns resulted in a few places being lost/gained. Pretty exciting stuff!
