Question about playing craps

I am heading to Vegas this weekend and I have a question about playing craps.

I know the best bets to make are taking odds on the pass line and the come. But I'm not sure of the best way to play them. Do you keep betting the come if the shooter keeps rolling different numbers?

Not sure if I'm explaining this very well, but let's say I bet the pass line, and the shooter rolls a six. I take the pass line odds. Would it be smart to bet the come as well, or just stick with the pass line and the odds? If I do bet the come, and the shooter rolls a 10, I know I should then take the odds, but should I bet the come again?

I think a lot depends on your bankroll and the table minimums. If you find a low limit game off-strip or in the daytime, you can be a bit more aggressive on come and place bets. But if I'm risking $50 on a roll, I could get knocked out pretty quickly, so I tend to stick to the Schottenheimer plan.

Come bets are always kind of a guts call anyway. They're not bad if you feel a 7 coming and want to cut your losses on the pass line. Otherwise, I believe the return on place bets is better than on the come.

There are lots of craps sites on the web.

Thanks, Z, that's what I figured. I've only played craps the other two times I'd been to Vegas. I bought the Hoyle Casino game to practice, and it kept recommending the come bet even when I had a pass line and two other bets already out there. I figured there's a point where you'll lose more than you'll gain.

I'm probably sticking mostly with blackjack, poker, and the sports book, but craps is so much fun when you have a good group of people, it's hard to resist.

Play low limits & load up on the pass line. Then throw it around the table. I usually play craps after having too much to drink, but it is a HOOT when a shooter gets hot.

I ignore the come bets. Play the pass line with the minimum bet. When the point is established, back up your passline bet with the odds. For example, if it is a $10 minimum table, you can back up your pass line bet with $50 if it is 5 times odds. You don't have to do that, but you can. At least double your passline bet ($20 on a $10 minmum table). If a 6 or 8 is the point, back up your passline bet a little heavier (good chance of hitting). Also, when the point is established, play minimum bets on the 6 and the 8 (they have the best chance of hitting other than the 7). Of course, if a 6 or 8 is the point, you should only play the one that is not the point. For example, if the 6 is the point, play the 8 only as you already have the 6 covered with your passline bet. On a $10 table, you will have to bet $12 on the 6 and $12 on the 8. That is your best chance of winning. It may look like a lot of $, but that is your best odds.

If I'm at a $5 table I usually play the pass line and two come bets, double odds on everything for a total of $45 out there. If it's a $10 table I usually only make one come bet, for a total of $60 out there. It's just a matter of how much you're comfortable losing when the dealer bellows those magical two words... "Seven-oooouuuuttttt!!!!"

I also play the don't pass line if the shooter is wearing anything with a Yankees, Steelers or Ravens logo on it.
