Arkansas State 24
Baylor 21

Undefeated (2-0) Arkansas State took their game to the road to visit the 0-1 Baylor Bears. The small school from the Sun Belt was nervous about their first road game against a Big 12 school in a larger atmosphere than what they are used to playing in.

The nerves showed, winning the coin toss and electing to kick, the defense came out flat. Baylor started marching down the field with a running game and a HB like they had not yet faced. Just when the D was getting a handle on the run, Baylor came out in a shotgun set and surprised them. A wide open Ernest Smith was found by QB Michael Machen and Smith proceeded to the endzone for a 47yd score. This occured just 50 seconds into the game and left the Indians shaking their heads wondering just how long the day might be.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130068344&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

After the score, both teams traded possessions and with decent field position the Indians were able to get a few things working but were stopped short and forced to kick a FG. 7-3 Baylor was how the 1st ended.

On the next Baylor possession, an interception thrown near midfield opened the door for an Indian offense that had just moved the ball and got 3pts. This drive proved to be similar to the last, a running game that was very effective. This time when the got in the redzone they got the job done. After 6 straight runs, QB Corey Leonard faked the hand off to the hot HB Reggie Arnold and then found a wide open TE David Johnson for a 5yd TD pass.

Baylor wasted no time to answer and got a quick score on a 33yd TD pass to freshman wide out Stacy Williams. This gave the Bears the lead again and they took it to the half.......14-10.

As the second half opened the kick off was returned 48yds and gave the Indians great field position to start the half. Once again the Indians turned to the ground and drove to the redzone yet again. Similar to the first TD, Playaction was the call and it paid off, biting on the fake Leonard found his other TE J.T. Jordan this time and the lead changed hands again.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130057823&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

On the first play from scrimmage after the last Indian score, the Bears caught the Indian defense sleeping as the backup QB John David Weed found WR Queito Teasley for 75 yds. The Indians DBs fumbled over one another and off he went. The score now stand at 21-17 Baylor.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130068345&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

After both teams traded possessions and seemed to have no luck with anything they tried. The Indian offense took the field and went back to the run. After a first down on the ground they decided to try the air again, this time Leonard found the slot receiver Jarriel Norman wide open and he went 71 yds to the house. This was his only catch of the day and it was the Pontiac game changing performance and was the last score of the game.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130044785&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

The fourth quarter was a complete opposite from the first 3 quarters as neither team could do anything. Baylor got the ball back with under a minute left and gave this last effort to try get the victory but Teasly, who got the big catch in the third, couldn't haul it in and the Indians held on to go to 3-0. This was SO CLOSE!!

RustedWalleye, this was one great game and I had more fun with this game then I have had yet. I don't know how you dropped the last pass but it should have been caught, too bad for you as you deserved the win. My defense was really lacking.

That was a fun game. Has been nice playing those I haven't played before. That was one of the funnest games I have had in a long time. Playing against Vader the other night was a treat too.

Great job with the highlights. That drop is a keeper. Ahhh what could have been just ended out with a pffffffft.

The one thing I like about NCAA this year is that s*** of rolling out the QB doesn't work as much.

Nice write up.

EDIT: I just re-read my post and realized it might be taken as a shot at one of the two peple in that game, it wasn't sorry if anyone took it that way

congrats Kansas (DAD) on your first win!!!

Arkansas St 34
Tulsa 9

The Indian's take to the road for the 2nd game in a row and came home with a convincing victory. I am not going into a lot of detail for this one as a few things will sum up the game.

First is that 5 turnover's will cost anyone a ball game and Tulsa made a few mistakes. 4 INT's and a fumble really hurt. Tulsa moved the ball really well and gave the Indian D fits, but every time they got to the redzone the turned the pigskin over. As a matter of fact, Tulsa was only forced to punt once and it was on their 2nd possession in the 1st quarter. So here are a few of the highlights.

Corey Leonard to Jarriel Norman for 71 yds. This was their 2nd time hooking up on the day as well as their 2nd TD. This came after the Tulsa punt. This also shows just how the day was going for Tulsa, this pass probably should not have even been competed, yet it went for 71 yds.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130057894&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

Tulsa DID get something going after going down 14-0 and were able to hold onto the ball long enough to get a score in the 2nd.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130068396&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

Tulsa got the ball back after a third Arkansas score with 2 min to go in the half and good field position. But threw a pick and the Indians marched down the field to scorewith 15 secs left on the clock. The first half ended with an Arkansas St. in the drivers seat with a 28-7 lead

Driving in the 3rd quarter, Tulsa was on the 5yd line and looking to score and they threw another pick in the endzone and this one was the final dagger. 100 yds to the house.
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130052365&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

The PAT was blocked and the rest of the game was fairly stale. The only turnover other than all the INT's was a fumble by Tulsa on the 5yd line in the 4th when they were trying to punch one in on 1st and goal. The Indian QB was then sacked in the endzone for a safety and this was the final score of the game.

theTruth, you were a true sport throughout the whole game. Things didn't go your way AT ALL and you were still able to laugh with me at certain points. A few breaks here and there and this score might have been reversed as the Indian D really couldn't stop Tulsa. They just continually found themselves the recipients of errant throws.

Good game man, I really did appreciate your sportsmanship and the fact we were able to chat the whole time of an ugly game.

I'm sorry, but INTs are just flat out broken in this game. Scoop and I just finished the most ridiculous game of video football I've ever witnessed with 11 total picks, and it seemed like twice that many. The DBs were coming out of the woodwork on every pass play, and we're talking Nevada and North Texas here. The whole thing degenerated into a matter of running dives and playing field position assuming that you'd be picked eventually on every drive. Stupid.

I had as many INTs as I had completions. Scoop had a 310-207 lead in total yards and I still end up winning 21-7 on those idiotic INT returns for a TD (and one fluke short pass that was broken for a long TD).

I won, and I hate this game more with each passing day.

The bottom line with INT's if you throw a bad pass or into any sort of coverage (especially double coverage), you are getting picked. I too used to think the the INT's were out of control, but with practice I have learned when not to throw the ball. In my four games I have thrown MAYBE 4 interceptions. I believe one of my games I didn't throw any.

The last game, theTruth had 4 picks. I threw one. He even admitted that he made mistakes and threw picks. Like wise, I made a mistake and threw a pick.

I don't know how you can play and not see that picks are broken, but at the same time I don't find it to be a game buster. It's frustrating and irritating that they didn't balance this better, but it's not the end of the world.

Kansas 21
New Mexico 35

Great game Spanner. It was a back and forth game, with the Jayhawks battling back twice to tie it. The Lobos started with the ball first and marched up the field on a long TD drive for the initial score. After forcing a punt, backup HB Martelius Epps gets an option pitch from QB Donovan Porterie (who looked like he was nearly in the grass) and pulls off an ankle breaking spin move before going 34 yards to paydirt. 0-14 Lobo's in the 1st QTR.

<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130057963&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

After throwing two INT's that gave the Jayhawks great field position which they capitalized for TD's both times, the Lobo's got the ball pack and with 40 seconds remaining before halftime and connected on a HB screen to starting RB Rodney Ferguson who took it 23yds to the house to regain the lead, 14-21. Here is the Pontiac "game changing performance" play:
<embed src='http://admin.brightcove.com/destination ... player.swf' bgcolor='#FFFFFF' flashVars='allowFullScreen=true&initVideoId=1130052431&servicesURL=http://www.brightcove.com&viewerSecureGatewayURL=https://www.brightcove.com&cdnURL=http://admin.brightcove.com&autoStart=false' base='http://admin.brightcove.com' name='bcPlayer' width='486' height='412' allowFullScreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' seamlesstabbing='false' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... h'></embed>

Once again, the Jayhawks tied it back up at 21-21 in the 3rd before giving up a non-highlight worthy TD to make it 21-28. Early in the 4th Qtr we see Porterie connecting on another TD pass (this time on the run during a rollout play) to an uncovered slot receiver Jonathan Brooks, who raced 48yds for the score to seal the game at 21-35.
