John:

Looks like this league is losing steam. You and I are the only commitments for tonight out of a field of seven.

I think we'll put it on hiatus for this week and see where we go from here. Not sure if it's waning interest in GPL, the revived interest in NASCAR Racing 2003 Season (which I completely understand, by the way!), new Xbox 360 titles or just real life intervening.

We'll make some sort of decision before next week whether to continue. Thanks, man.

Take care,
PK

For me personally, it's NASCAR. I just wanted to race something...anything. I've never been a huge road racing fan, but I loves me some left turns, Buford! GPL takes an absurd amount of laps to just be relatively competitive, and I am already starting to feel like it's more work than fun. It's only 10 or 12 races though, so I could show up and just putz around the track as easy as the next guy.

Bugger, I was looking forward to this one - being the token European invader, I like turning right every so often, see. I'll keep an eye on it and see where it goes from here.

Terry, Adam:

Thanks for the input. I want to hear from everyone else before making some sort of decision about the fate of the league.

Maybe GPL is better suited to periodic, change-of-pace Poker Nights than a regular league. That's the way I'm leaning, but we'll see. I don't want to abandon right turns and the golden era of F1 racing completely.

Terry, you and I have discussed this via IM, and I agree with you: GPL is an excellent, challenging driving experience, but NASCAR Racing 2003 is a much better racing experience, which suits the communal nature of online racing better. NR 2003 is more challenging than I ever thought it would be, too.

We'll see how this shakes out. Any other GPL league members, please chime in.

Take care,
PK

PK-

I've enjoyed what we've done so far with GPL, and I finally got to a point where I was looking forward to turning laps and learning how to lower my times. This was my first real foray into a regular league. If we drop this, I'd like to jump into a regular league somewhere that fits my limited experience as was mentioned earlier.

I'd love to be a regular on the NASCAR nights, but right now I'm just in the way. I'm the one renegade in NC that prefers road course racing to ovals, but I appreciate both having ridden in the Richard Petty Driving Experience. If I can turn laps without causing problems, I'd be glad to jump in on N2003.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of response. I am interested in both GPL and Nascar 2003 revivals. My problem right now is complete lack of time. I am on a 6 month project at work that is taking up huge amount of time both in and out of the office. Likewise, we are currently trying to get our house ready to sell this spring and in the middle of multiple projects there as well. In fact, I am high off paint fumes right now.

Anyway, I really do want to keep something going for both GPL and NR2003, even if it is just impromptu poker nights. I would be glad to keep the servers going even when I cannot join and post the results.

If nothing else, I am enjoying the resurgence in interest in racing sims. Thanks to that I now have completely restored, fully updated versions of NR2003 and GPL.

So anyway, I will do my best to join in when I can. Don't give up the dream. :)

PS - Completely OT, but Paul have you installed the GTP Prototype mod for NR2003 yet?

Don:

I haven't installed the GTP mod because I have read that it doesn't work with an "alternative" copy of NR 2003, if you get my drift. :)

Apparently there is a crack that will allow the GTP mod to run with an "alternative" version of the game, but I can't find it anywhere. Every supposed link to the crack that I've clicked has been dead.

Bummer. It looks like a b*tchin' mod. But I already have my hands gleefully full with the Busch, Truck and Aero88 mods for NR 2003. :)

Take care,
PK

Just got home...super late day at school. Darn, no racing. Jon, check the ADC...they run an average division race every Friday at 6:30 PST.

Guys, lets shoot for next Wednesday...we could alternate Wednesdays...let's finish this.

Sorry, I started work very late today and just got home.

I was up for jumping in though I've done only about 10 laps of Zandvoort in my entire life. I'm still up for racing tonight but I'd prefer some practise time.

I don't have NR 2003 yet and it would require some time for me to get familiar with it. I'm already having trouble getting familiar with GPL. Regardless, I'd like to try both.

OK, fellas, looks like there's still interest.

Terry, it's totally up to you whether you want to continue, man. Adam can easily slip into Brabham if you want out. Adam, you can take any car you want, even if Terry opts out.

We'll continue with every Wednesday. Piggy, every other Wednesday won't work for me, selfishly. We have nine races left, and every other week would take 18 weeks. I would miss at least two races because I'm in Indy for the month of May, and I'm usually working most nights in April as I'm doing 500 and USGP stuff. So I'd miss probably three or four races.

I will continue to make a reminder post every Wednesday morning in this thread. Please try to respond if at all possible because if we have a week like three weeks ago, where there were few guys available due to work, life or illness, I'm willing to delay a week.

Otherwise, we go at 10:30 p.m. (EST) every Wednesday. Thanks for your input, fellas. Glad this is continuing, even though I'm turning absolutely zero practice laps before each race night starts! I guess you don't need practice to learn how to pull off the track to let the leaders lap you. :)

Take care,
PK

Dudes-

I am interested, but haven't been able to get on or even play yet. We're having some work done in our basement. The porn machine resides in the basement so I haven't been able to access it yet.

Soon fellas soon...

So how many people we got for tomorrow night at Zandvoort?

Adam, are you in yet? (that's me, quaking in my boots).

Terry's definitely out then? Dang.

Guys...I am sorry to say I can't make it tomorrow night.

I am, leaving for a conference in Sacramento tomorrow morning.

All my Wednesdays are clear afterwrds except in the 2nd week of May.

Let's keep this going if we can.

Randy, having established that my cable works through some races with NASCAR Racing 2003 (you'll love me for this, I know, but that thing is all kinds of fun online), I'm in for tomorrow. Haven't played GPL for a few weeks so my speed and consistency won't be quite as I'd like - don't go quaking too hard.

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see who commits and if we're racing. I've ran the Lotus pretty much exclusively for a couple of years now, but to keep the constructors championship interesting I'll have a bash at the Brabham if - if - Terry is out of action.

Count me in. Going off into the hills should look fun on the replays.

I'm going skiing tonight, but I should be back in time. Who is hosting?

Thanks,
PK

If I don't see a host set up, I'll set it up.

I'm setting up a host now since I don't see another one. If you come online and can't see it, post here...as I haven't hosted using IGOR before so I'm naively just assuming it'lll work :)

I could see it from IGOR, but I could not establish a connection (a timeout occurred). As well it didn't ask me for a password.

EDIT: Now it asks me for a password, but I still time out when trying to establish a connection.

I can't see it, although given that I'm a complete IGOR novice I rather suspect that's a problem at my end and not anybody else's.

The maximum latency was by default being set to 0ms. That might have caused the timeout.

I'm using the same core.ini settings I've been racing with (3/84 3/84 I think).

I'll re-run the server and let it run for about 10 minutes before punting :(

If I'd realized that we were going to be minus a host I guess I shoulda tried to test out hosting myself, *sigh*.

K, It's 11pm here and no one has successfully joined, so I'm going to figure I haven't done enough homework to get this working as a server properly...

I'm therefore going to call the race a rain-out for this week, and let's try again next week.

Yep.

I could see the party but couldn't join it.

See you all next week.
