PES 3 (PC) or WE7:I (PS2)

Post by JRod »

Guys it´s nearing time that I have to make a final decision. After listening to all the talk about this game it´s good that we have a few more weeks left.

So does anyone have any advice on what I should pick up. Here´s my situation...

PES3 -
Seems to be a lot of PC issues and not having a gaming PC but a rather good PC it makes me worry a bit.

Plus gaming a PC isn´t a comfortable as on your sofa with the PS2.

Updates - that´s the one big plus. The EPL is out. And I´m sure in the coming year, while see probably every big league in some form in the game as a mod.

WE7:I
Playing it in the console is how most gamign should be done, IMHO.

No updates.

100% garunteed to work right if my PS2 doesn´t crap out.

It´s a tough one.

My two cents on the issue...

There are pros and cons to each version.

The PC is nice obviously for all the patching and whatnot, but the performance issues are real. I just got a new graphic card and I am still having performance issues. As a matter of fact, I find the final version to run slower than the demo did on my machine, but that could just be me.

If you have a burner and know how to play backups on your PS2, I would say get the game for PS2. That way you are guaranteed good performance, plus couch and whatever else about console gaming you like. If you don´t do that stuff with your ps2, it´s just a question of if you can deal with no kits, lineups, and all that jazz.

If you do decide to go PC, as has been mentioned here numerous times, get a USB PS2 controller adapter. I got one off ebay for $8, and there are a number of websites you can order them from. That way you can stay true to the ps2 controller layout, and honestly I think the ps2 controller is better than most pc controllers anyway so I use it for all my games on pc.

The issues are what scare me. The demo didn´t run that well. FIFA ran okay but it wasn´t silky smooth but PES3 was really bad.

I really want the updates but the performance is a big "?".

After using 3D analyzer and running the game in 16 bit mode the PC version is running smooth as silk...just awesome...

I have the EPL patch and what a treat it is...

add in addboards, stadium updates, music updates, kits, etc...and the PC version is the way to go.

Get the Logitech dual analog for $20 and it plays as well as a PS2 pad.

I would give the money to Konami stateside on WE7 just to tell them that I want them to keep releasing the game over here.

I know this is something we´ve covered before, but where did you get this 3d analyzer program from? Was it Nvidia only?

Also, how did you set it to 16 bit color? Did you just do that in normal Windows, cuz I don´t see that option in PES like most games have.

With the EPL patch, can you play a EPL season just like real life?

Unless PES3 has a 20 team league this year, you wouldn´t be able to do so. PES/WE has always had the typical 16 team league play.

Okay, I found the program I think, but it doesn´t seem that 3d analyzer does any analyzing. If you could just post what checks boost performance for PES that would be great, but how did you figure that out? Trial and error?

I, for one, and am reluctant to turn my PC into a gaming machine, and I´m not hot on the EPL patch because I want to play as Rangers or Celtic in WE7.

I also don´t think I want PES/WE7 on the same machine as Championship Manager because everybody else in my family are gamers too. When the PC is tied up, I can play WE7. When the PS2 is tied up, I´ll play CM.

something to note here, is that the PC game is on a DVD, so if you only have a regular CD rom, it won´t play.

Yeah, the PC performance issues are very, very real for me as well. It´s to the point now where I´ve pretty much given up on getting it to run at an acceptable frame rate on my systems. And while my desktop is not exactly cutting edge, it´s a quite a bit above even the recommended config by Konami (2.66 GHz Pentium IV, 512 MB RAM, ATI GeForce4 w/128 MB).

All this despite having tried every single trick on Evo-Web and elsewhere.

It´s a real shame, since at the higher detail settings the graphics are absolutely amazing. Problem is that it runs at about 1/10th the speed it should. Setting the resolution as low as it goes and putting detail on the slowest setting allows you to play at a reasonable speed, but is plagued by horrendous slowdown at the absolute worst times (usually in the box).

The EPL patch is very nice, but nearly everything it does (if not everything) is also available in patches for WE7. Unless you have a very powerful PC and can run the demo without a hiccup, I´d strongly recommend the PS2 version. Unless of course you don´t have a PS2 that can read patched CDs, in which case the decision becomes harder.
PES 2008 makes baby Jesus cry.

Well I ordered PE3 from Gameplay without knowing about the graphics problems on low end machines.

Does anyone have a similar machine to me?

P4 2.4
512mb DDR 2700
Radeon 9700 Pro

Do you think I´ll be able to run the bad boy decently?

I would think all those people that are nervous about the game should expect roughly the same performance with the retail version as they got with the demo.

Personally the retail version runs a little slower for me and has more slow down problems around the box (even with commentary off), but I have also heard many say the opposite and the retail version was better for them.

Just for the heck of it, can somebody point me to the demo for PES3?
