Too bad the game is based on oval racing. Driving in circles get´s boring pretty quick for me. I hope someone makes a CART game.

Pretty spiffy looking screens. I´d like to see some in cockpit screens though, that tells me a lot more than exterior shots.

Rodster, I used to think oval racing was boring too... WoO for PS2 changed my mind in that regard, as the AI/racing was great. Also NR2002 for PC is awesome, even on the ovals. The speed in such a large pack of cars is really daunting.

IRL racing is typically more spread out isn´t it? Not a large pack of cars in one spot. I´ll wait for reviews of this game (PC version) before diving in.

This will definitely be worth a demo download. I´ll keep an eye out for it. I used to think oval racing was boing myself. If you´re racing in a competitive pack, I find it quite satisfying. If you lose contact with other cars, it can become dull. OTOH, if you´re racing road courses, you´ve still got the challenge of driving to keep you going if you´ve lost contact with other cars. I like having both forms available to me.
No way. The average margin of victory at the finish of an IRL was closer than NASCAR Winston Cup in 2002. Plus there are always a few packs of cars dicing and slicing, even though there are about 15-20 fewer cars on the track than in a Winston Cup race.

The racing in the IRL is tremendous, and even impartial racing observers will tell you that.

PK,

Have you seen any in-game video, or even had a chance to play any of it?

(Or is this something that you´re not allowed to tell us )

Jared:
No, on both questions. I do have a colleague at work who has played the game and was impressed. He´s not a videogamer, so he didn´t have a lot of specifics.

I can say that Dan Wheldon, who made two IRL starts last year with Panther Racing and now is Andretti Green´s test driver, is working with Codemasters in the development of this game. So there definitely is pro driver input.
The cockpit view does exist. I´ve seen developers answer questions about it several time, so it is a little vexing that they haven´t released a screenie depicting it.

Also, not to pimp another site, but Blackhole Motorsports will be accepting questions for our interview with development manager Leo Cubbin and his Indy Racing League development team.
Hmmm... makes me wonder why they sit on something like this. It always burns me up the way publishers hype racing games by showing external screen shots only. Yes, they look cool, but if I don´t like the cockpit view, or one isn´t even offered, I´m going to pass on the game. I can´t get truly excited about ANY racing game until I´ve seen a cockpit screen or two.
Thanks for the heads-up on the interview at Blackhole Motorsports. I visit it quite often... I´ll get a question or two in the queue myself!
