I have the 360 HD-DVD drive and, while I haven't timed it with a stop watch, it starts playing content pretty much right away - it certainly doesn't take minutes.

Looks like the 360 shortages are over. I saw five at Walmart this morning then later at Costco, they must have had at least 30 of their bundled systems. I haven't seen that many in one place since launch day.
