Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Just read today where one of the most arrogant prats in sim racing, GTR and Project Cars creator Ian Bell, has formed another development company and will launch a game called Project Motor Racing (original name there, dude) on PC and consoles sometime this year:

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
I'd second that recommendation without a moment's pause. Engaging handling, interesting game mechanics, and above all else, just a ton of fun. If you're looking to spend $11 on a racing game this weekend, make it New Star GP. If you're not looking, consider changing your mind. Go on, treat yourself ...

Re: OT: Racing 2025 (Spoiler Alert)
Congratulations to Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye, and Phil Hanson on their 24 Hours of Le Mans win. At 40 years old and basically driving with one arm, Kubica's final 5th stint drive was pretty impressive!
I was worried that drive would get lost somewhat in the noise around Ferrari's ongoing ...

Farewell to Eddie Jordan, the last 'garagiste' to make a proper go of Formula 1, after 76 years incredibly well lived.

Not the most enthralling race I've ever watched. Nevertheless, it was a race, and we only have 2 more of those between now and May, because Heaven forfend that the series should seek to build any early momentum.

While I'm here...F1 Manager 2024 is free on Epic Games Store until February 20th.
If you fancy giving the series a try but have always been put off by the idea of having to spend even a single cent on doing so, this feels like the kind of offer you could get behind. If, like me, you've no intention ...

This isn't something I expected to find myself saying in 2025, but I've been playing a lot of Grand Prix 2 lately.

Thanks for the head's up on the WRC update, Adam. I may pick that up. Really enjoy that game.
I also took advantage of the $14 deal on F1 24. Cost me $7.50 after I used $8 worth of Xbox Rewards credits. I'm not sure what EA did to this game between launch and now, but the handling model is ...

Quick heads-up just in case it's of use, as I assume this applies to markets outside of the UK too: there are deals on EA racing games via the XBox store for EA Play members, which I am via Gamepass.

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Looking forward to reading about F1: 98 -- that was the first F1 game I played on the PlayStation! What memories.
Funny how you've dug into your vault to play some old racing games, including RIMS. I'm doing the same, playing RIMS and Ride 3.
RIMS is as brutally unforgiving as ever, but man, it ...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
This all sounds very tempting, but I think I'm going to hold out for a sale. I enjoyed the first iRacing World of Outlaws game a lot for as long as I played it but, as has become habit in recent years, never went back to it once the next new shiny thing came along. That wasn't so bad when I'd paid a ...

I was too shy for that. Before it became Electronics Boutique over here, I bought the Nigel Mansell Newman Haas game from the Hartlepool branch of Future Zone and the bloke behind the counter ...

Adam, thanks for the F1 24 first impressions and experiences post patches. For once I held off on early purchase and your impressions have sealed the deal for me to wait at least until there is some major sale.
Also, your blog posts on the Sony F1 game for PS1 are fantastic reads and truly ...

2 patches for F1 24 since my initial notes above. One of them addressed handling, of which more shortly, and the other addressed things like having the entire field forced to start a wet race on slick tyres because even after 15 tries, Codemasters can't pull an F1 game together without shipping a ...

Not sure exactly what the correct answer is here, but every year there's the possibility of there being new viewers who hang around after a fantastic 500 to see what this IndyCar business is all about, and races like today's in Detroit cannot be what the series presents them with. I imagine there ...

Thanks for the kind words, lads.
I'm refreshing myself on Formula 1 '97 so I can write about it over the next week or so, but before I do, I wanted to let you know that I've tried the free trial of F1 24.
I've seen clips of wheel users drifting like it's Need For Speed, then demonstrating how the ...

Re: EA WRC DSP Rally Championship
Incredibly poor form from me this week.
I always pick the Sierra Cosworth where the option exists in a game, solely because my Granda had a Sierra when I was little (it was a 1.6 litre base model, but still...) and I like the little nostalgia hit I get. I've always wanted to own a Sierra Cossie too ...

Re: EA WRC DSP Rally Championship
Rolled it 5 times in Sweden, 3 of those in the first half of stage 1. That deep snow is a swine once you drop a wheel in it. Also received a corner cut penalty while upside down in mid-air, which I thought was a tiny bit harsh, but whatever.

Enjoyed that. Nearly drove off a cliff on stage 5 and lost 90 seconds fitting a new tyre on stage 6 because I occasionally crash into big, solid things, but the goal for these stages is to face the right way for as long as possible rather than being a hero and I did that, as long as you ignore the ...

Re: EA WRC DSP Rally Championship
I didn't get to try much of the trial event - I ran one rally, in which I launched a Group B car off a cliff on my shakedown, couldn't fix it properly before the rally proper and consequently launched it off another cliff - so am limited in the feedback I can offer, but what you're proposing sounds ...

Re: Best XBOX 360 (or PS3) era games
Racing wise there are too many. I wanted to buy Blur but it's going for around $75-100 on ebay. I don't want to spend that much. Keeping the budget around $1-$5 per game.
