I assume your point is that there should be anti-speculation laws (for oil? or for commodities in general?). What about places where those laws wouldn't be binding? Like, the rest of the world?

I often wonder why Canada and the US don't nationalize their commodities oriented industries. A lot ...

The article only counts bills after Obama took office.

Why would McCain listen to party operatives? The same ones that torpedoed him in 2000? The guy has probably the biggest ego of anyone in the Senate, for better or worse.

True, but you know how campaign promises and presidential policy are ...

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/15/records-show-mccain-more-bipartisan/

This is news?

Of course McCain has a better bipartisan record. The man has been a maverick in his party for years and has shown a willingness to work across the aisle. Obama's only been in the senate what? 4 years ...

Teal, congress has been vilified by the public since '94 with the whole gridlock/shutdown of DC so it's not some new phenomenon. the sharpness of the apathy and lack of confidence towards congress is a bit of a new thing though.

The BLAME BUSH! mantra worked well in the '06 congressional elections ...

So I haven't been around :(

Instead of trying to keep up with the conversation (I swear i'll be back into the swing of things soon!) I'll just offer up some thoughts

1. Man i've seen the Palin interviews...Let's just say she made a fool out of herself. A lot of what she said sounded very extreme ...

"looks at poll"

Hey wait! How am I to answer that? :?:

Anyways I'll follow this incarnation of the thread and join in the conversation starting Thursday. I noticed the recent poll numbers saying that the race has tightened up.

Could the debates "gasp" actually mean something for the first time ...

PK that was excellent analysis. I also believe McCain when he says it's not about him. I saw the tail end of a Charlie Gibson interview with him before the convention last night and McCain was so humble and seemed to be so much at peace with himself. McCain knows it's going to be a fight but as he ...

As far as I can tell those protesters were handled the way they should've been so i'm not crying any tears.

Anyways i'm going to be really interested to see how big of a convention bump McCain gets. If the bump puts him neck and neck with Obama then it's going to be a very interesting race and one ...

How do you Rep's feel about McCain crapping all over the last 8 years of republican rule?? It's weird. He never even said old GW's name.

I mean, come on, GW is your boy... Why does he have to be a hater?

Actually McCain mentioned GW early in the speech and generally said nice things about him ...

In that same vein I was really intrigued about what McCain suggested for his potential government. He basically hinted at a National Government rather then a strictly Republican one. It'd be mighty interesting to see GOP'ers and Dems in the same administration with very important jobs.

The only ...

One thing that Mark Shields said was interesting. He noted that this speech sounded like something from a candidate whose party has been out of power the last 12 years. Others on the panel concurred and one even said that the response to McCain saying that "we've betrayed ourselves" only got a tepid ...

Inuyasha I agree with you 100% That was the best speech i've ever heard McCain ever give. He was genuine, showed humility, was cordial and respectful to his opponent and when going after Obama he did it by pointing out differences rather then hurling insults like Palin did.

The part of the speech ...

Haven't really noticed the protesters on the PBS feed but I switched around at times and saw some people escorted out.

Oh and the "USA USA USA" chants got old very fast.
