MS Flight Simulator

Post by sportdan30 »

This will be my first Flight Simulator game. The reviews have been glowing. Looking forward to flying over some beautiful landmarks and cities.

Love that it's on Xbox Game Pass on the PC.

Indeed, I cannot wait. Haven't played a proper MS flight sim game since the 80s. My dad was a pilot back in the day so he had a nice little setup at home and now that he's retired and can't fly anymore, I am gonna build out his office to get him flying again properly. :)

That’s awesome Scott! Would love to hear what he thinks about the visuals.

I’m close to ordering the Saitek Pro Flight stick, but want to try the game first with a controller.

Waiting for VR implementation. Playing Xplane 11 and DCS in VR just spoils you.

I'm ready to get my mind blown by something other than the usual stuff when I first play this game on Xbox. :)

Saw some chatter about how much data download is needed at full graphics setting. Someone estimated that merely flying CA, NV, and AZ would require some 4tb of data download,, Yes the game looks gorgeous, but if playing means using so much bandwidth, it could be a killer for me. Broadband sucks a bit for me - no way I can get a 50 mbps download rate from my provider.

I read that too that it demands a ton of bandwidth when flying which depends on what details you want in the game. I'm capped at 1.2TB with Comcast

Playing with a controller isn't so easy in my opinion. I would love to know how it plays with a yoke and throttle. All I did yesterday was the basic tutorials which I did fine at the time, but don't remember too much of what I learned now  The fans on my son's PC was definitely running pretty loudly. It'll be interesting to see how it fairs on the Series X.

I'm definitely on the look-out for some one-page cheat sheets or something like that. There's a reason games like this used to come with massive manuals.

What a beautiful game, I had fun just flying around yesterday after doing some of the tutorials.

Finally purchased and downloaded MSFS 2020, plugged in my thrustmaster and after 4 hours I'm trying to pry myself away to get some shuteye.

The game auto set me up on high and so far it's been silky smooth on my pc. I'm in total awe at how beautiful this flight sim is. Of course here in STL it's night time so my first flight from Lambert airport was unreal with all the lights and seeing cars travel down I-70 as I took a short flight to Chesterfield airport.

I have a TON of learning to do and I'm sure I'll do all the flight training, but just being able to go on the other side of the globe on a sunny day flying around various parts of the world is nothing short of an incredible feeling.

So happy on this older pc that it runs this smooth.

They put me on "Ultra" but I bumped my down to "High" because I was getting some stuttering occasionally. Still looks beautiful as hell tho. Nothing like flying over your house, seeing the hill behind it along w/ the trail that goes to the top of it. Just unreal.

I am so looking forward to this game when it hits the Xbox as my PC is not built for gaming.

I am having fun with it. It’s definitely a chill game. Get to cruising altitude, work on some checklists, take in the scenery. Beautiful scenery. Stunning.

Dittos.

Flight sims were my genre for gaming a couple decades ago. 8)

Curious as to what resolution you guys are playing in? I saw some YT videos and a lot of hardware is required to get between 30-60fps in 4K 10700K-10900K, 32GB min, RTX 3080-3090 just to get close to HIGH-Ultra at 60fps in dense areas like NYC. Still hoping we'll hear something about the Seires X port in 2021.

3440x1440 on high settings mostly...have a few of the ultra details turned off, and getting around 40-60fps most of the time. Down into the 30s in dense areas. It's usable on my GTX 1080...it's pretty much the only game that makes me want to upgrade...the rest are still running at ultra on my setup. Not worth the 700 dollar upgrade at this point.

Thanks for the info DB. I was checking out the YT vids and compared some of the benchmark tests in actual games including MS Flight Sim. The new AMD 5950X vs the i9-10900KF and AMD closed the gap. Now it's a toss up between the two except the AMD now costs more than the Intel CPU's. I was looking to build a new system but trying to find an RTX 3080 is almost impossible without having to pay scalpers prices.

So instead I went with the Alienware Aurora R11 since the RTX 3080 is in stock. I configured it with an i9-10900KF, 1000w liquid cooled setup, RTX 3080, 32GB of 3200mhz DDR4, 512 Nvme SSD. I was able to get a 15% discount on the rig so outlay was around $2400. Not great but not bad either but i've been amped to play it on HIGH settings in 4K. I hope I can pull it off.
