Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 coming in 4K HD in September

Post by pk500 »

I'm ALL OVER THIS. I played the first two Tony Hawk games until my hands locked up. Loved everything about them -- the open worlds, great controls, soundtrack. All of it.

Can't wait for this.

Well this is certainly welcome. The first 2 in the series were just so damned good.

Demo came out last weekend for people that pre-ordered and damn is it good. Definitely old TH vibes and controls just as well as it did back in the day. The graphics are incredible as well...so this is gonna be real fun when the whole game drops in a few weeks.

It definitely takes some getting used to with the new controllers. So much muscle memory w/ the old PS2 and Dreamcast controllers...hard to adjust w/ the Xbox controller given the button placement and feel is different. Going to take a bit to get used to.

I have been playing the ever-living-sh!t out of THPS2 on the Dreamcast and THPS 2X on the original XBOX the past couple of months. It's made up the majority of my gaming and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the THPS 1+2 Remaster. Thankfully everything I'm reading and watching on YouTube states that this time it's done correctly and there's not fear of another THPS HD fiasco.

Anyone pre-ordered this and play the Warehouse demo? If so, is it as good and fun as demo reviews indicate?

Thanks.

Words Matter, PK! :P

I really can't wait for the full game to drop. I said it above, but I've been playing THPS 2 on the DC and THPS 2X on the original Xbox quite a lot the past couple of months. Have been through the career multiple times with each skater in both versions.

One thing I'm hoping for is that they include a classic mode with the old objectives and scoring system. I know they've added in the manuals, reverts, etc and adjusted the scoring system to account for them which I think will be fun in their own right. However, I want to play the original parks the way they were originally developed to as well. I know in the demo they have settings where you can change it to THPS1 or THPS2 mode, but I'm not sure if the objectives and scoring thresholds will account for those settings. Fingers are crossed!

Pre-ordered this game and downloaded Warehouse Demo last night. This demo has delivered all the nostalgia and feels that I expected, and then some. Nothing ground-breaking, but why f*ck with perhaps the greatest extreme sports series of all time?

Can't wait for the full game to drop. Playing THPS again is a ton of fun.

This actually went live at around 7pm MTN last night so I decided to take it for a spin shortly after halftime of the Nuggets/Clippers game.

You definitely start with lower base stats in this game than in the originals as you can't even build up enough speed to Nosegrind over the Pipe in the Hanger. It's also hard to get enough air to get the letter E when collecting SKATE.

Looks like they replaced Cash with stat point collectibles, too. Now there's really no reason to enter the Wind Tunnel secret area that I know of. I don't recall there being a stat collectible in there, but I'll have to fire it up again to be sure.

Initial impressions is that it's more difficult in the early goings than the originals and having been playing them for so long leading up to this there's some differences I'm going to have to get used to for sure.

Teal and I played this until 2:45 a.m. (ET) last night. Could have easily played until sunrise if not for work.

Jason nailed it: THPS is the ultimate "one more time" game when in the two-minute session mode. It's digital crack.

BRILLIANT remake.

Making it difficult to not purchase this game. Never played the original, but it just seems like mindless fun.

That couldn't be more accurate. Especially if you've never played it before. You're in for a treat.

I've never played any skateboarding game, so this seems to be the way to finally give it a shot.

That said, given my frugality and my gaming backlog I will probably wait for sales....

All this talk had me download THPS2 for the Dreamcast and fire it up in redream (great Dreamcast emulator). Have the disc but figured I would save my DC GDROM life. Need to upgrade to the premium version of redream for a whopping $5 So I can play in HD. Was a fun and nostalgic Labor Day.

LOL, what are you guys, 80 years old needing dramamine?

This game is brilliant...only had a chance to do a level or two but it brings back that one more time feeling of the 90s. Can't wait to get into it some more.

Loving this one so far. So are my kids - which makes it even better in terms of value.

I'm certainly enjoying my free skates around all the THPS1 and 2 parks and cities. We usually just pass around the controller and mess around for an hour or two.

Do you guys spend a lot of time in the main game - i.e. the 2 minute timer? We've checked it out a couple of times, but it seems so restrictive and kinda ruins the flow. I'm sure once you get into it, it clicks....just hasn't happened yet for us in this mode.

Anyways, very impressed. It runs beautifully on the PS4 Pro as well.

I love the two-minute mode. Creates a sense of urgency, competition and even more "just one more try" appeal.
