Yes. The tool created by a forum member named Chad over at Golfsimulator.com has been a game changer. Basically his tools do all the hard work of sculpting a course’s elevations. Cuts the time to create a course exponentially and the courses are more realistic. I’m currently making my first course with his tool. It’s been a fun experience. I’m finishing it up by placing all the trees on the course. Even with the tool it still takes a decent amount of time.
Are you also using the Overhead Street Map tool that's contained in this package Chad had put together? I can't wait to see how your project comes out!
Been busy the past few weeks and haven't done any work on my course so I am hoping to get back to it this week. Ill keep you posted.

Whoa... what brought that on!? Something truly bizarre happened when he was playing this hole; I witnessed it myself.

I'm curious for my own plans with the LiDAR tools and the course designer... how much time do you think (roughly) you have invested in your course recreation at this point?

Probably a solid 4-5 hours. I haven’t done much in over a week. Too busy playing. My guess is if you do a Lidar course it will take you around 8-10 hours.

Yeah, if I hadn't read the caption under his picture, I'd have sworn that Vader claimed yet another trophy in the current DSP Society!

This is going to come across as a somewhat 'nancy-esque' type whine, but this past weekend's DSP 72 hole tournament at Sedgefield Country Club stripped me of the last vestige of confidence I may have had in my putting game. My stats showed that I only hit 67% of my medium range putts (5 to 10 feet) in this tournament, whereas our overall Society average for medium putts is 77%. I missed 7 putts in this tournament of 5 feet, or less. We have four players in the DSP Society who've never missed a putt of 5 feet, or less :o

A little further digging revealed that I'm ranked 14th/10th/10th, respectively in short/medium/long range putting percentages in the Society. At least now I know what area of my game needs work in practice. I gotta admit though, my putting has taken a severe downturn with the demise of my Elite controller. The precision feel of the Elite controller helped me modulate my putt strength much more proportionally. I guess it's time I invested in another one...

Finally, I'll ask if anyone else got the impression that a lot of what appeared to be good looking approach shots, in the 170 to 215 yard range, were often escorted 40 to 50 feet further beyond and off the green than terrestrial physics should have allowed? I know the greens were firm and fast, but all too often the ball wouldn't come to rest until it hit the light, or heavy rough fringe collar for me in this tournament. :?

Yeah, I felt most of my approach shots sailed long of the green even after calculating for the firmness of the surface. Even on flop shots. Certainly had my misses of 5ft putts or less depending on the angle. Nice fight to the top for Joz and Vader, that must have been exciting.

I finished the tournament much earlier this time as I had to head of town on Friday and playing it all at once got the best of my attention span or rather lack thereof.

I have nothing to whine this time as about everything mostly went my way in the weekend tournament :D

I really liked the course today. Fun course that should pop out some good scores. I had some bad missed putts and a couple of missed drives that killed my round.

John- One thing that I quit doing is trying to count breaks and line and all of that. I now just go by what looks good and go with it. Definitely seemed better over the weekend than how I was putting. Today I just babied to many short putts. I've been trying to be more firm with the short ones. Of course this is advice from someone who is probably just as bad in the putting ranks as you stated :D

Cue up the whine but that was the least enjoyable course I've ever played in this game. I was -1 going into 18 and not having fun at all. Then took a quad on 18 but even if I finished -1 I would still be whining :D

You've got company... it would be among my top five least enjoyable courses. I went postal on the back 9, after three shots went OB, after barely missing two fairways and one green. I had a quad, a triple, and a double and two bogeys on the back, and finished at 10 over par for the round. :x

I chose that course after reading the praises of it in the official forum, with two trusted names calling it the best looking course they've ever played. Yeah, it looked good, but in too many places it played like an over-the-top fantasy course. Look on the bright side; you beat me by 7 shots!

Yeah, I don't try to count breaks, but I do try to set up a putting distance target, based on green speed and elevation change between where I'm at relative to the hole. I'm purely instinctual about the side slope, although I can't turn my real world brain off that thinks of the ball coming straight off the putter face before it starts breaking, rather than breaking right off the putter face as it does in this game. 95% of my putts are missed on the low side of the hole because of this.

What I'm mostly missing right now is my Elite controller. I can't regulate the putt distance as proportionally with my stock controller as my Elite. I tried repairing my Elite, but its left trigger is like it's permanently pulled in and the right trigger won't actuate at all. Guess I'll have to break down and buy a new one.

I thought it was a fantasy course. Add the wind factor and other than the cosmetic part it wasn’t very pretty with all the breaks, different heights and undulations.

John, didn’t know an elite controller would make such a difference for you but if you’re going to replace it you might as well wait for the new elite edition this winter.

Still playing with my crappy loosey goosey sticks.

Yeah, its one thing to make it challenging then there is the lets put something in the middle of every fairway because i hate life factor. :D I believe at one point my ball stopped on the rock that held Excalibur in the middle of the fairway. :D

I just played today's course called Aronimink Golf Club (LiDAR), and it's the antithesis of New Highland Dunes. It's LiDAR, so its topography is totally believable and its superbly planted. The only thing I didn't like about it was the green firmness and speed, firm and fast. The course would have played better with medium-fast, I believe. I had a panicking 5-putt triple bogey from 19 feet on 17, and a 3-putt bogey from 9 feet on 18, all because I can't modulate my stock controller very well, after getting so acclimated to what I had with the Elite controller. The greens weren't ridiculous, but my caveman-esque, high testosterone putting strokes on those holes were!

Yeah, it's a fantasy course, I just wish it wasn't as over-the-top as it is. Makes for some great screen shots though! :?

 :)

Watch me play the 17th today at Aronimink and you'll see what a guy who's conditioned to putt with an Elite controller can do where a highly modulated stroke is required.

Elite controller or not, putting is just f***ed on this game with fast and undulating greens. If there is another iteration of this game, med-fast should be the fastest setting. To me, medium is just about right.

Yep, I'm waiting for the Elite 2 controller to be released in November since it will have spring tension adjustable sticks. :D

Last night on that seemly easy course i couldn't hit a straight shot to save my life. I really struggled with tempo despite me thinking I was doing the same old swing.

I played with John's ghost last night and I noticed like Vader your guys approach shots are say 85% of the time spot on, within 10 feet or closer and your balls seem to stop on the same greens my shots are rolling off. Considering my drive is almost always in front of both of you can I ask what exactly your doing to get those fantastic results? Is it adjust the loft higher on your shots?

Be nice if there was a practice mode to hit into a green to practice this stuff.
