I can't believe you signed a 39 year old catcher to that deal. Risky move Jonah

He shows no signs of slowing down yet. Look at his power numbers. He's a bad C - he'd be plopped at first, but Ledezma is still there and can stroke the ball, too. Perez is a bigger risk, IMO.

Dennis Chapman: $26.4M/2 yrs
Javier Salinas: $33M/3 yrs.

I really ought to include position and new team:

Sherman Payne, SP, Gold Sox: $39M/3 yrs

There's a story here: Payne, former Cy Young winner, had an inexplicable drop in 2010. Is it just a fluke, or is it a decline? $12.3M per year is a steal for him if he's anything like his former self.

Rumor mill:
Jose Garcia, SS to Isotopes for $50M.

Payne's 2nd half of the year was pretty good, though.

The "Major" is going to have a bounceback year with the Gold Sox this year. With the defensive addition of Chapman and the trade for Lang the club is much better defensively and offensively.

His signing allowed me to trade stud SP Salomon Jimenez and get cheap middle infield help.

Playoff tickets are now being printed in Hagerstown.

Steve

Chappy's defense?

Steve I hope you didn't bring my boy to that cesspool of a city for his defensive abilities. 23 errors last year didn't give me a bunch of warm and fuzzies.

Of course...if he hits .365 who cares?

Watching the NL will be fun this year with you, Charleston and New Orleans.

Luis Gomez, SP, Drillers: $63M/4 yrs
Antonio Salazar, SP, Rivermen: $35M/5 yrs
Richard Adams, SS, Socialists: $19.5M/4 yrs
Joe Baldwin, CL, Cicadas: $9M/2 yrs

Gomez earns the highest total salary this offseason, though not the highest per year - not by a long shot (Hines).

Some big FA signings this week.

I'm not in on the Dirk Franks (SP) sweepstakes but I'm interested to see where that one will land. Over $17 million / season?

The rumors are true:
Jose Garcia, SS, Isotopes: $49.4M/5 yrs

Also, Novi spends an amazing amount on a MR, which is strange because the closer they signed makes a fraction of that contract:

Paul de Blooys, MR, Drillers: $31M/3 yrs

You have to think de Blooys will be assigned as a CL, and the newly acquired CL will be a MR.

If Luis Gomez, a 30-year old 4-star guy went for nearly $16m a season and four years, I'd think that Franks should go for at least $20m per season. Probably more.

Unless he tries the closer as starter experiment -- that guy does have a 10 stamina

I think when you change position with a CL, the stamina changes. Not entirely sure.

SP Dirk Franks, $130m/5 years!

Wow. Miami's payroll is now $131.7m; for a team that made $87.6m last year. Eek.
