The Rise and Fall of Will Nicholson

Post by Bill_Abner »

Anyone else notice this?

Kid in Providence wins the Rookie of the Year AND the NL MVP in '09 and in 2010 falls off a cliff due to being hurt seemingly every other week. Ouch.

Meanwhile, Ybarra is going on a slugging binge. He's freakin' taunting me.

Like many others before him he got caught up in the trappings of success. It started with the winter award banquets where he ate too many steaks and stopped working out. Soon after he started endorsing every product that would throw cash in front of his face and before you knew it he was a stranger on the diamond.

When he finally arrived to Spring Training with an extra 25 pounds around the middle and a hat size two sizes bigger the poor season should have been expected. His anger at his contract being renewed for 400k has led to many mystery trips to the DL.

I recommend an immediate trade to Hagerstown in the offseason...

I have noticed that even though the Injury rating is no longer on the player profiles like in the old game, players are most certainly more prone than others.

I think Nicholson will never again be the player he was in 2009.

You aren't seriously considering signing him again are you? What does he want?

He wants $22M per year for 2 years, with incentives.

I offered him an extension for much less. ($16M per year, with incentives.)

From .233 late in the season, and suddenly he’s .298/42 and LAUGHING at me with his desire for a $22M per year extension.
