Arbitration Vs. Extension

Post by GreenSoxJonah »

John Simpson, my superstar closer, is eligible for arbitration. He's only making $5M this year.

However, if I offer an extension, he wants $13M for 1 year (I have $20M free for extensions).

Tough choice - go via arbitration, which MAY or MAY NOT be less than $13M, or give the extension.

(sigh)

EDIT: If Ybarra thinks I'm going to sign him to a 2 year, 40M extension, he's batty.

Didn't you just give YOUR closer a 1 yr, $12M extension, Bill?

He was going to be a FA. If I could have done arbitration, I would have.
