I believe Richard Clarke was working for Clinton at the time. Wonder why this wasn't in his book??

Looks like a lot of finger pointers could have stopped Bin Laden well before 9/11. Looks like Bush isn't the only one that catered to the Saudis.

Gotta love politics and trying to play nice with the world huh? Cost us plenty of lives and were still counting.

JD I love what you did for our country my good man and you know I am with you, but these threads never turn out well. You see the pole below? Even with Tera attached I would not consider touching this thread with it.

That doesn't change the fact that she needs to do a crunch or fifty.

I've seen her in action. She must have been retaining water when that picture was taken.

As far as this thread. Just making a point. Politics suck. People should stop pointing fingers and grandstanding. Everyone in Washington needs to take some sort of blame for what happened and try to make sure they are doing what they are being paid for. Protect the US citizens.

You're right, Jack. I'm sick of the whole process. It stinks. Nothing more than a big ol' fraternity in Washington. People pointing fingers one way. People pointing fingers the other. This guy is to blame, this guy isn't, depending on your political leanings, and meanwhile, nobody knows the truth outside of his/her political bent.

War for oil? I thought about that yesterday as I was paying my 2.65 per gallon for cheap gas. Guess that theory goes out the window. But the administration better get its ass in gear, along with the rest of the legislature, and find some way to control this. People aren't going to put up with stuff like this forever. Last year it cost me 12 bucks to fill up my car...now it's around 30 or so.

But that's just one of a litany of examples of politics muddying the waters. I've grown sick of the whole dog and pony show. What caused 9/11? Middle eastern terrorists. Who was asleep at the wheel? The whole of the political system in Washington. It's broken...

Good post, teal. I think the general public feels more disenfranchised by the day. Politics has become a CYA game where your party comes first, not the citizens you represent.

I am sick of it as well. I am sick of people ignoring problems or pointing the finger in another direction just because of political ideology. I lean slightly to the right and I was not opposed to the war, but I am so sick of this whole mess. It's embarrassing. Torturing people is wrong. Lying is wrong. Using Iraqi oil money and the billions of Saddam's money, as some have alleged, for bribes and for fixing "free" elections is wrong.

I hate to quote one of U2's worst songs, but I think of this line every time I watch the news or read a paper:

"And you become a monster
So the monster will not break you"

I agree Jack, especially about 9/11.

We as a country are all responsible for being caught off guard four years ago. I think most of us thought no one would be able to pull off such a thing here. From not taking a domestic attack seriously, to lax security, to multiple administrations not taking action against terrorists -- it's a giant collective f*** up on our part. In many ways, that overconfidence extends back to our early interventions in Afghanistan, training the people who would later become our current enemies to use those tactic against the Soviets. We didn't realize the monster we were nurturing.

Yep, and I feel like a moron for ever being duped into a Ford vs Chevy type allegiance with this political mess. Democrats are politicians, Republicans are politicians (slaps forehead) D'oh! They're all the same. There are some very good people with a 'D' after their name, and there are some very good people with an 'R' after theirs. But the parties are losers. The system is pathetic.

I've considered libertarian, but I think I'll just stay independent for now. It's been very freeing not to associate myself with politics or politicians. But as PK has said before, there needs to be a revolution in America. Badly...

My feeling is that I'll always hate the politicians but I'll root for the ones who will effect policy the way I'd like to see it. To use a sports analogy, I'll always root for the uniform. It's not like I believe that Bill Clinton was such a better man than George Bush, or that everything that Bill Frist has been accused of has not been perpetrated by more Democratic Senators than I can count. It's okay to hate the players, but still like the game.

I actually root for *all* politicians no matter the policy stance. Once an election is over I want them all to do well.

For instance, I despise Ed Rendell in almost every way, but I am rooting for him to stop f*cking up the state.

Couple of things, There was a bunch of Al-Quada led attacks against American forces/landmarks before 9/11. The bombing of the Cole in Qatar, the embassy bombings in Africa, and the most famous but not mentioned enough was the Orignal World Trade Center bombing in the early 1990's. Why were these threats not recognized after each and everyone of these bombings? That is the question that needs to be answered. I don't care who was in office just answer the reasoning.

Bingo!

We were hit 8 times under the last President. Shouldn't those in power then been included in the 9/11 hearings? We had a President that meet with a fat intern more than his FBI Director Louis Freeh. It's not like Freeh was ignoring the threat. http://www.cnn.com/US/9608/01/senate.terrorism/

Let's hope our elected leaders have learned from their mistakes.

Yeah, I can read. You and Teal just have an extremely biased point of view, so you do not see the hypocrisy in your comments.

This is ALL bullshit. The hearings are big fat waste of time. The plan to take down the towers was deceptively simple. The measures we have taken at the airports since 9/11 would not have been tolerated in any way before 9/11.

Do I have some gripes with Bush? Sure. But this hogwash about who failed to stop 9/11 isn't one of them. Hindsight. 20/20. BFD.

All this bickering does is ensure that both parties get on board and keep the Patriot Act alive and well. No one wants the blame for the next 9/11, even if it means surrendering civil liberties we would have never considered giving up.

I'm sick of the blame game, but I don't think finding other people to blame solves it.

Prime example. How many times have "we" been hit since Bush has been in office? Hundreds of times, since you want ot count attacks on foreign soil. But Bush counts that as a plus, fighting the war there, not here.

Why try to spin this meaningless data? Why not understand that the data was meaningless? You are spitting out info straight from the republican spin, but you don't actually think about what they are saying, just regurgitating.

I would but this is a family oriented website. I just beg of Jackdog and Teal to ignore Jayhawkers comments and let this one go.

Done. I think. Are you regurgitating? If so I can't actually think about what you are saying. Sorry Brent.

Do you think he knows I didn't vote for Bush? Maybe I did. Is Bush a libertarian? Am I regurgitating? 8O

The way he's telling me how I feel reminds me of a dickhead that lives in New England.

Damn I wonder how I made it through 42 years of life without his insight. I guess I'll take my biased ass out for my 4am run. Don't want to have a fat biased non thinking ass. But I did have a big dinner. Is that hypocrisy?
God I wish I could figure this all out!!
