OT: Prayers Needed

Post by JackB1 »

just found out my Mom (76 yrs old) might have cancer. she went into the hospital over a week ago with a life-threatening level of calcium. They got that down and started doing all kinds of tests to determine the cause of the high calcium levels. They did a bone biopsy and now suspect it might be Myeloma, which is a cancer that effects the blood cells. They are doing a 2nd biopsy today and take a bigger section to test again. They haven't yet confirmed cancer, but the odds are not in her favor. The positives are that it is treatable (but not cureable) and that it would probably be in the early stages.

this all happened suddenly and it difficult to think that my Mom might have this terrible disease. if anyone knows anything about Myeloma, please let me know. I am hoping for the best.

Wow, Jack, really sorry to hear that. I hope the diagnosis proves otherwise and will pray for that outcome.

Let us know if you ever need to blow off steam or need a bit of temporary distraction from these troubles. A DSP Rivals Night is always there.

Hang in there, man.

Take care,

You'll be in my thoughts. Just be optimistic. Science and medicine has come a long way in treating cancer and there's no reason that if your mom does have it that she can't successfully treat it and live many, many more years.

Jack,

I wish you and your family the best. Both my father and aunt have survived cancer, so I can imagine some of the things that are probably racing through your mind.

Best wishes and keep s posted.

Jack - Prayers are with you, your Mom and your family. We are in the midst of a similar thing with my Dad right now. Cancer is a very scary disease. Peace.

thanks guys.....it's funny, but it really makes me feel better to read all your kind words. I really appreciate it. My mom has always been so healthy and my sister took her to the emergency room one day because she felt really lethargic.....and then a few days later, you start thinking about maybe this could be the end? Scary stuff. Hope all you guys hang onto your parents for a long time.

Jack-

I know the feeling. My mom was diagnosed about two years ago with fairly advanced cancer called lyomyosarcoma. Real rare, real deadly, and it had spread all over before they caught it. She had to do weeklong chunks of chemo with no break just to try to make a dent in things. For a very long time things looked bleaked. But prayers and science do a lot, and now she is doing much better. No more weeklong chemo trips, and she now goes every couple of weeks for a 3 hour chemo "tune-up" as she calls it. Her attitude and general health is so improved its a miracle.

So keep the faith and pray for the best. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Joe
