Median house prices in So. Cal are out of control. Vegas and parts of Florida are on the rise as the fastest growing.

I'm happy to see that my perception of the Twin Cities being only behind the Chicago area for housing values in the Midwest is actually accurate!
We are probably on the wrong side of the big boom, but there is still plenty of growth going on in our area. I'm hoping a nearby townhome got what they were asking because if so, they got 10% more than we paid for our identical unit. Of course, they were going for half of that 3, 4 years ago.
Seeing Indianapolis way down on the list also reminds me of why I was shocked at the prices up here.

Which makes no sense since employment is down in high tech since the dot com days, other than low interest rates, which are on the way up.sf_z wrote:We're number one!!!
I've seen 40-year old homes, well under 1500 square feet, in need to fixing up, go for $700k.
It's out of control.
I saw this Yale economist on CNBC the other day saying there's a bubble and noting that between 1990 and 1997, home prices actually fell by a lot in LA and then heated back up in the late '90s.
Since they are using the median price, the ghetto neighborhoods aren't bringing the value down too much unless half the houses or more are in ghetto neighborhoods.dbdynsty25 wrote:Gotta love a smooth 474,000 for a house in my area. And there are a lot of ghetto neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area bringing that number way down.

Bay Area is absurd. I was in the San Jose/Los Gatos area a few weeks ago, and regular 1800-2500 sq ft. tract homes were starting in the low 7 figures. Insane...wco81 wrote:Which makes no sense since employment is down in high tech since the dot com days, other than low interest rates, which are on the way up.sf_z wrote:We're number one!!!

You don't even want to know what my parents paid for their 2500 ft house.bkrich83 wrote:I'd like to know where I can find a house here for 584K. I haven't seen a house that cheap in 2 years. I basically paid twice that for a 2800 sq ft. crib.Herbsinator wrote:$133,500(lincoln)vs. $584,100(san diego)
I'll take my winters and my extra 450,000 bucks.
Problem is, it's in Lincoln.Herbsinator wrote:You don't even want to know what my parents paid for their 2500 ft house.bkrich83 wrote:I'd like to know where I can find a house here for 584K. No, you're right I don't want to know. We've occasionally thought about leaving the area and buying an extravagent house for 1/3 of the cost of ours. Problem is I just can't seem to leave SD.

Here you go...same square footage for about a 1/4 of the price...even tho it is in lincoln.

With 4 kids, I couldn't afford to buy in Carlsbad last year, so we bought in Oceanside (Rancho Del Oro area), and the kids are still going to Carlsbad schools. Almost a half million for a 4 bedroom, 1900 square foot starter home... Still, having moved from the east coast in 1990, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!!

Small world, my first house was in the Ranco Del Oro area. That's a nice area, and 500K for a 4 bedroom house in that area is actually a good deal. I bet you have 100 grand in equity already the way prices are going up in that area.PadresFan104 wrote:BK,bkrich83 wrote:I'd like to know where I can find a house here for 584K.
