Lag on XBL?

Post by athletics_fan »

Guys,

After getting my newest subscription to Xbox Live the other day, I fired up Project Gotham Racing 2 on XBL to get some online racing in.

During my first race, I could hear the other people in the room complaining about how laggy my connection was. Also, people kept saying how my mic would go in-and-out...I never had a stable mic session.

Also, I played some NCAA '05 in hopes it wasn't just PGR2 giving me lag problems - and NCAA was also very laggy, very choppy.

I tried unplugging and re-plugging in the router from my computer to my Xbox, but that didn't solve the lag problems. Would it help if I unplugged the main router and plugged it back in?

Before I cancelled my first XBL account, I had no lag whatsoever. Now however, I'm getting lag everytime I fire Live up.

If you guys have any suggestions on how to solve this problem, I'd appreciate it.

The problem likely has nothing to do with your Xbox or Live account, but rather your ISP/internet connection. Go to:

www.dslreports.com

Or

www.testmy.net

and check your bandwidth and latentcy. If you have a router attached to your broadband moden, reset it and the modem. Test again to make sure you're getting true broadband speed.
Good luck.

Make sure you don't have any computers running in your house becuase that can be a big cause of lag.

Well, I ran some tests on connection speeds...and I'm waaaay below the norm for a cable modem connection.

My guess would be to restart the cable modem inside the house and then restart the router in my room. I just hope this cures my problem. I've never had lag like this before, which is weird - I have no idea why this problem has suddenly come up.
