What was so bad about your experience here?

Where do I start?
 
 The basics: Too many people. Too many strip malls. Too much traffic. Everywhere is at least a 30-minute drive. Shitty air quality compared to where I grew up. Too much random crime. Too many car thefts. Too many threatening natural disasters, such as quakes, landslides and brush fires. You need to drive to get to snow, which sucks. No sense of community. Every town in SoCal runs into the other, with little or no greenbelt between. Plus everyone has those f*cking walls surrounding their lots, turning neighborhoods into prison camps. Ridiculous real estate prices.
 
 The controversial: As much as I loved the free-and-easy attitude of California, the superficial dark side of that attitude really wore on me. Young SoCal residents are the most superficial, image-conscious group I´ve ever encountered. It´s the flash that matters, not the substance. Also, in general, people from California don´t get after it in a workplace like those from the Northeast. My colleagues would spend the first 45 minutes to an hour of every Monday rehashing their weekend instead of working.
 
 Bottom line: Beautiful place, hot chicks, nice, yet somewhat vapid people, at least young people. Not for me.
 
 I still stay in touch with friends I made in SoCal, and they´re great people. But I now live in a village of 1,800 people with one stoplight, 25 minutes west of Syracuse, and I hope to never leave. It´s 30 minutes from where I grew up. It´s home. It´s Central New York. It´s me.

 Actually that´s a pretty funny statement. Right now, the company I work for has two offfices in North America...Andover, Mass and Oxnard, California...
 
 Guess which one gets the bad rap for being lazy and unable to perform under pressure? Yup, Andover...
 
 Isolated case for sure, but it was just funny when I read that. LOL.
 
 The rest of what you say about Cali is definitely true...this place sucks if you like community, most people are fake as hell, and there are too many goddamn SUV´s.

 Man, if you dislike SUV´s, stay the hell out of upstate N.Y. This is SUV Nation.
 
 But unlike SoCal, people have them here for a reason: We average 115 inches of snow per winter. And our family lives atop a big-ass hill.
 
 Still, I hate the damn things. My wife loves her Chevy Blazer. My next vehicle will be a Subaru car.

 It´s not that I dislike them...its that people DO NOT need them here unless they go to the moutains all the time...which I doubt half of the SUV owners do here.
 
 In a place like NY where you get the kind of snow you do, they have a place...not in So. Cal.
 
 Not to mention, whenever I get cut off by an SUV...sure as s*** there´s a chick on a cell phone driving it...a car that is way to big to haul two kids to soccer practice. Whatever happened to soccer moms driving mini vans that are easy to see out of?
