Anyone gonna compete in the Madden Challenge?

Post by Jared »

I´m thinking about going to the D.C. competition. I´m pretty sure I´ll get my booty handed to me (especially since I´m used to playing the PC version of 2003, and I´m guessing the contest will be PS2). That, and I always play with the Dolphins...and I´m sure everyone in a contest will likely have the Rams or some other equally cheap team.
I´m reading the rules now...this is interesting. The games are (get this) 4 2-minute quarters. An eight minute game. How on earth can you test someone´s ability playing 4 2-minute quarters. That adds a completely new dimension to game strategy...

Four quarters of TWO minutes each? Damn, I know you´re in Md., but save your gas money unless EA is giving out swag.

Two-minute quarters? That´s a f*cking joke. One drive could consume an entire half.

I agree with you...but only to a point, PK.

I think 4-minute halves helps people that know how to play ball-control. Say you receive the kickoff in the first half. A solid drive will eat up the whole half, not allowing the other team to get possession. Then they get the ball in the 2nd half. They get a quick strike score, and you still have time to run ball control and score with seconds left to win.

True...I don´t think it´s a great way to run a tournament. But I understand the logistics (it takes a lot of time to run a tournament with 500 participants). And it plays into the hands of smart players, not go for the 50-bomb every time blitz freaks.
True, but I´d like to see the ball more than once per game against a smart player.

Good point. The finals should be a full 15-min quarters game (with the accelerated clock). I doubt that´ll happen, but one can hope.
