Post by RandyM »

I went to gamerankings.com, and if you sort by voting average, Star Wars: Knights on the XBox is the highest voted game of all time, with an average 9.7 out of 165 votes...( a respectable # of votes ), and if you sort by review scores on the XBox, it´s 1 = Halo, 2 = Star Wars, 3 = Splinter Cell.

I guess I was right when I called it the Halo of RPG´s. Playstation 2 owners lose out BIG TIME on this one....and it´s hilarious because PS2 is considered the platform of choice for RPG´s, and yet perhaps the best RPG yet comes not for it, but its competition...and Sudeki waits in the wings.

LOL! Hey it´s healthy to have diverse interests. If you like a good story and/or if you ever wanted to see what the D&D D20 system was about without having to read a big fat book and roll lots of dice, here ya´re

I know I´ve said it before, but this time i mean it PK!

This is the game that will make me get an Xbox. Now that the reviews and impressions are flowing in, this is one game I just can´t stand not playing. Just waiting for a couple of checks to come in from jobs a few weeks ago, and maybe you can give me a nice Moto GP 2 or Midtown Madness butt-kicking online!

I am this close to picking up this game (Star Wars: KOTOR). If another couple days go by without me finding a rental, I just may purchase it. I too am not what you would call an RPG gamer, but the reviews from gaming sites and more importantly gamers like us have me incredibly intrigued. Damn you all! By the way, I returned NCAA 2004 last night. For one reason or another, I just couldn´t get into the game. Perhaps it´s because I´m not a huge fan of college football or maybe because my team sucks (KU Jayhawks). I guess I´ve never been a big fan of the BCS system or BS system how I refer to it. I suppose I just can´t get excited when there´s like 30 bowl games and only one game that means anything......and even then, there´s dispute what teams should be involved. I´ll hold out for the NFL.

Agreed Randy, if Halo was supposedly the only killer app that Xbox had there is no way people can´t consider KOTOR another killer app. KOTOR is one of the few games that I have ever been hyped for that actually lived up to the hype (and in my mind surpassed the hype).

You f*ckers are gnawing my will power ... But I just ordered $50 in bike parts, so there goes the $50 I would have spent this month on KOTOR. I figure riding daily will keep the old ticker pumping longer, which will give me more time to pick up KOTOR and other games in the future.

But I´m definitely renting this baby!

For me at least KOTOR is the greatest non sports game I have ever played. Now I am not a big RPG fan, but I am a big SW fan. I can´t stop playing this damn game.

I second that bk. I think it´s quite possibly THE best I´ve ever played.

I can´t remember the last time I was nearing the end of an RPG, just chomping at the bit to finish it...so I could start over again and play it a different way.

Now I know why Xbox Live has been so dead the last 10 days. Everyone is playing KOTOR.

Seriously.

NHL 2K3 was a ghost town last night, and I couldn´t fill a game of Hunter or Stayaway on Midtown Madness 3 last night for about 15 minutes. A month ago, it seemed like one of those games would fill in about 15 seconds.

Man, this game must be off the hook. Weekend rental for me!

PK, I would love to play some hockey with you sometime. I don´t fire up random games, but I still play franchise games in that almost nightly (until I got KOTOR and NCAA, that is lol).

I keep trying to put my finger on why I love KOTOR so much.

It´s not THAT different than Neverwinter Nights on the PC in many ways. However, the main thing is that the story is interesting and keeps moving, and nothing you´re asked to do is particularly tedious. Add that to a fantastic fusion of graphics, sound and control, and you have a real winner.

I hope that BioWare sells millions of this. We could use more games like this....stores that understand the two most important ingredients to a RPG: the story, the and pacing/balance.

And it gets way better...you haven´t even gone to Dantooine to study becoming a Jedi yet, or visited Kashyyk and walked under the huge forest canopy, or fought off sandpeople in Tatooine, or raced swoops on the oceans of the ocean world (Manonn?)...

Oh yeah, the game just gets better, and better, and better....

Game of the Year until I see something unseat it...and that´s going to be a LOT of work.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can´t even say anything because it will give away a huge spoiler (I didn´t see it coming AT ALL), but rest assured the game gets INSANELY interesting as you go toward the final planet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more note to those who are not at the end of the game yet - make sure your primary character (e.g. you) have a few offensive/dark side powers, even if you´re going light and you don´t generally use them. Drain Life is a good one. Destroy Droid will also come in VERY handy.

If you don´t get the right skills when you get to the end, you´re going to have a bear of a time. I´m going back now and re-doing part of the game to change my skill progression appropriately. This is a small blight on an otherwise brilliant game -- the fact that it does what so many other RPG´s does and punishes you severely for not being clairvoyant enough to know what kind of confrontation you´ll face at the end.

Heya PK,

Yes, SW:KOTOR has consumed my soul.

Actually I watched some racing, what with Toronto last week and Vancouver this week...but the show was pretty darn boring. Won´t spoil it in the event someone here didn´t see them yet, but I was bored to tears....CART needs to get more action on the track by whatever means possible.

I did get NCAA for the XBox and PS2. I can´t get the dumb SOCOM mike to work properly, either that or the other person doesn´t have a mike enabled. it does show that the voice is enabled, but i don´t hear a thing yet...who knows.

Randy,
If your opponents mic is turned on then you would hear something. If you hear someone talking and you respond but he can´t hear you then you need to hit the R3 button to enable your voice chat. In the bottom right hand of the screen is an icon. If it is red then your mic is off, if it is green then your mic is on.

The mic is green, but I don´t hear anyone. Will I see the microphone on with green if I have a mic but he doesn´t? Maybe it´s just that no one I´ve played with has a mike?
