The worst pasting of my online gaming life

Post by pk500 »

Leebo33, congrats, you bastard: You gave me the worst pasting of my online gaming life last night in Inside Pitch 2003.

The final score (and this isn´t a misprint or an NFL 2K3 score): 26-3.

No excuses. Just a hammering. But at least I was laughing my ass off at the end. You were laughing, too -- probably at me. What else could we do? No controllers were thrown here, either.

The irony of the game is that we were locked into a sterling pitcher´s duel during the prior game. I led, 1-0, in the bottom of the sixth with Randy Johnson on the mound. Then we both encountered our first-ever "Disconnect" with IP. So we started another game, and the rout was on by the time Leeb dropped 11 runs on me in the second inning.

As Marlon Brando whispered in "Apocalypse Now," "the horror ... the horror."

I normally hate losing. But this game was so absurd that I could do nothing but laugh. I was hopeless, helpless, etc., while Leeb caught and hit everything in sight.

Still, I think the game -- and our prior, interrupted pitcher´s duel -- does prove one point: There´s a wide variety of online outcomes in IP, big time. And that´s one of the factors that keeps the game fresh and exciting for me.

Let´s play ball again, Leeb!

Take care,
PK

[ This message was edited by: pk500 on 30-05-2003 07:02 ]

I concur about the great variety of games to be had.

I usually can hold my own and have had many close games, that is, until I played DBdynsty !

Man, he cleaned my clock. Twice. That is one of the great (and horrible) things about this game...You really pay for playing sloppy and making mistakes. If that is not as realistic as it gets, I don´t know what is !?!?!?

PK, I don´t know what the hell happened during that second game. Maybe you needed a little ephedra The one bad thing about having to use the right stick to throw is that it makes it harder to play while you are in an "altered state." You kept throwing to home rather than first base

That first game was great. I challenged a few times, but Johnson´s stuff is nasty. You had just hit a two out 3 run homer to take a 4-0 lead and that would have been tough to overcome.

Cincy, you don´t have any excuse

Jesus, Leeb, I forgot about my homer. Tells you about my mental state at the time.
Spooky,

It was luck man. Actually I think it´s a combination of luck and skill. The reason:

High Heat is 10x harder than IP, even on the middle difficulty setting. I went back and started playing HH last night after getting wooped up on by HipE and I couldn´t hit a damn thing. I think playing HH helps with the coordination on IP, because it´s so much easier overall.

It´s all good...I´ll give you a rematch whenever you want. Name it and I´m there.

DB:

I agree HH is harder and helps in IP, but I wonder why. Do you think the pitch recognition in HH is harder, there are more "zones" in the strike zone than the 9 in IP making the possibilities greater, or do you just think it is programmed to "make things work out" (especially with the sim meter turned up).

I would love to play HH online on a console. It is too bad the future is in doubt for the series.
Leebo,

I think it has a lot to do with pitching trajectories, speed and location. There is a bigger difference between pitches in HH and also in the #1 and #4 starters. That´s where I think the issue lies. The game just isn´t as forgiving if you miss-time a ball.

I´ve noticed that you can swing really early or really late in IP and still hit the ball hard somewhere. In HH, if you are too early or too late, you´ll pop up, foul it off, or hit a dribbler somewhere. That is the key to baseball. Most pitchers only need you to swing just a bit too early, and they´ll get you with an easy roller to 2nd or short (Maddux for example). HH portrays this a lot better than IP in my opinion.

I think that is the major reason that HH is harder, and more realistic.

Also Leebo...they don´t tip you off to where the pitch is going in HH...like they do in IP. You have to line the ball up and actually ´predict´ the trajectory and velocity in HH, whereas in IP you just have to time it and look for the dot.

The randomness of pitch location is another big thing. It´s a lot easier to paint corners and pitch in IP whereas HH is a lot more of a crapshoot, which is more realistic as well.

HH is just a better game...but IP is damn fun online.
