... because I went to EB last night armed with some eBay and half.com proceeds and bought Moto GP 2 and Inside Pitch 2003 for the Xbox, and played them until 2 a.m.!

Getting up for work was rugged today. Damn, both Moto GP 2 and IP are gems, especially online.

For those who say Moto GP 2 is the same game as Moto GP with more tracks, I say balderdash.

For starters, the bike handling model is different -- and better. The brakes aren´t nearly as effective as Moto GP, as there are longer stopping distances. And there´s either more grip, a more predictable contact patch or a slightly more stable handling model. Not sure which, but something is different.

Either way, the new handling model seems to reward smoothness a lot more than the original. You just can´t throw your bike around as much as the first game.

One of the great features is the seamless transition between offline and online gaming. Really easy to access, and I love how you can see immediately how your best times stack up on each course with those posted by people on your Friends list.

IP is really, really fun. Again, it´s not quite the single-player experience as WSB or High Heat, but it´s really, really strong online. And I still think it plays a better game of baseball than either MVP or ASB offline.

Your mileage may vary!

Take care,
PK

I know the feeling. I´ve had more ´un-baby-related´ post-2am sleep nights this week than I´ve had in a long time!!

Picked up motoGP2, but have put very little time into it as I´ve been distracted by Inside Pitch too much. Looking forward to trying it though, and seeing if I can advance from my second-tier placements to hang with the top dawgs like Kruza, PK, and BBR.

Inside Pitch is a Great online game, and hard to stop playing. And so far, I´m actually one game *under* .500 online. Fantastic!

After putting a few games into offline, though, I think it is easily the *worst* of the baseball games this year. You really see the AI weaknesses and lack of options, and it is really a homer-fest, even on the hardest levels.

Another one of those games where I can jack 7+ hr´s fairly easily against the CPU.

I´m still a little concerned that eventually even online hitting will become too easy...I´ve heard HipE puts up some huge numbers...but I´m not there yet.

I´ll look for you online, PK.

Lol!

Nice, BK.

Another thing that is great is the popularity of this game, at least among the DS,SR,CG and OS communities.

Everytime I´m online, I see half a dozen buddies online playing, and I can usually score a cheese-free game.

...course, most are already *IN* games...

Web, the other night I had no less than 14 people on my friends list on IP. Of course the ones that were´nt on IP were on either Moto GP2 or Wolfenstein, my other two fave online games at the moment.

But I can honestly say at this point in time, I am having more fun playing IP online than I have with any other online game to date.

I´ve had shootouts, pitchers duels a real variety of games.
I am moderately concerned about eventually having all high scoring games, although I feel defense is the key. HipE is great at defense. In the games I have played him I have scored 0, 2, and 2 runs. I see a lot of people online with ERAs under 4.00 in 9 inning games. In the games I played good defense I have given up 4, 2, 0, and 2 runs. Last night PK and I played an 18-15 game. There were at least a dozen plays on both sides in the game that were hits that I know HipE and others would have made.

I agree the game is shallow in solo play and I would never trade in my copy of HH.
Yeah, our game was an offensive volcano. I didn´t have the difficulty setting maxed out -- does that make a difference?

While last night´s game was a slugfest, I´ve had some tight, low-scoring pitchers´ duels, too.

That´s one of the cool things I really like about IP online so far. I´ve had a really wide variety of games.

And no doubt, we botched our fielding something fierce last night. I was a bit altered, as I warned you. What was your excuse?

I think you´re on too something too. My first couple of games were pretty high scoring. But as people have learned to play defense, I find the high scoring games are much less frequent. Also people who really know how to pitch (change speeds, setup pitches, work locations) really seem to be succesful.

HipE and I have had a few very good low scoring games..

According to my online stats, my online ERA is 3.21 and i seem to be holding teams to fewer runs now than I was when I first got the game.

We´ll see, it may turn out to be a slugfest all the time, but currently I am just not seing it.

[ This message was edited by: bkrich83 on 29-05-2003 11:04 ]

Some of y´all need to start looking me up now. I´ve got IP again (3rd time) and this time I think I´m digging it....online that is. HH will definitely fill my offline baseball gaming needs.

Spooky and I played a couple games last night and I was having a blast. If only for a few disconnects this game would be dope.

Look me up fellas.
Regarding your observation of more/better grip, it´s likely due to the default Soft tires you´re riding on. The Medium tires in MotoGP 2 which has lesser grip are the ones that make the bike handle a lot like the bikes in the original MotoGP (assuming no other settings have been changed in the Bike Setup screen).

I racked up most of my IP wins against people who had just started playing the game. I´m sure all the newbies I beat will now start kicking my ass. The OS guys own me in IP. I have not beat BK yet, losing both games by one run (one disconnected after 7 innings). TCrouch put a whupping on me, beating me 13-3. Defense really is the key in this game, as most of my close games have been decided on runs scored due to defensive miscues.

You´re on BK. This time though, we are playing in PNC, no more of that fake spray painted palm tree crap in the outfield
I will hopefully be renting Brute Force next week PK. I have some friends coming to visit for a few days before my wedding, that should be a good multiplayer game for some "altered" gaming.

Just a heads up, "Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance" for Xbox is on sale this week at Best Buy for 9.99. It came out last fall to pretty good reviews. It´s pretty much a mindless hack n slash game with great visuals. Definitely a great buy at that price.
