WOW!
WOW!
WOW!
WOW!

UN-FU*KING-BULEVABLE!

Now I know what you guys are talking about. I have only nfl2k3 and it plays like a charm. The games run so much better on xbox compared to their ps2 counterpart, it is like day and night.

I played HIPE a few times last night and our games were incredible.

I will be getting nhl2k3 and nba2k3 shortly. I have listed my gamertag below if you want to add me to your freinds list.

You guys are starting to make this XBox ownership sound better and better. I may have to get me a paper route so I can afford to buy one!

I´m curious though, when you´re playing someone live, does the chatter ever get in the way of the game´s audio? I like the idea of head to head play via the net, but I wonder if the voice communication doesn´t start to get old after a while. There´s something about text that keeps people from overcoming the game in the online games I play. I almost wonder if I wouldn´t be happier playing these games with a keyboard for the occasional quip that may be needed here and there, and maintain the mystique of playing a voiceless, but human opponent.

Glad you experience has been a pleasant one thus far. And yes SIAM007, your handle precedes you!

I was thinking just like you J. I went ahead after everyone said how great XBL was and it is incredible. If there was no XBL, i probably wouldn´t have picked up a XBOX. But now, all I want to do is play XBL, I cannot go back to offline.

As for voice, it doesn´t get in the way of the sounds of the game because you hear the other person´s voice through your ear piece. It does not effect the sound coming out of the machine.

As for it getting old, it´s too early for me to tell. But others who are going on almost 1 week now tell me it´s not getting old for them. Like last night I played a complete stranger and had a great convseration about gaming, but we were still into the game we were playing, it is a very dynamic experience.

I´m skinning my ignorance about XBox Live here, but let me continue. I take it the headset only covers one ear and you have a boom mike that´s attached?

Is there an option to connect it to a speaker if you chose to do so?

Is keyboard input optional?

(LOL... I forgot that Paul had already done a beta report feature for DSP. I wasn´t interested in an XBox at the time so I didn´t retain much of what I read. Now that I have, I´m even more XBox plussed! Thanks PK! )

Do you notice any impact on the game flow when voice messages are being transmitted?

I just read a few reports of NHL 2K3 via XBL... the guys were stoked! It will be interesting to see how much of a boost the XBox gets from this XBL service. I think the analysts may have underestimated it.

I must confess that one of the things that has steered me away from the XBox is its less than stellar sales performance compared to the PS2. I know the XBox is more capable hardware, but I´m always leary of losing a key developer or publisher when they see the sales potential for PS2 versus XBox. I´d like to see that turn around because I think it´s good for all of us to have competition.

Let us hear about your NHL 2K2 live experience as soon as you´re able!
>>>I´m skinning my ignorance about XBox Live here, but let me continue. I take it the headset only covers one ear and you have a boom mike that´s attached?<<<

That´s correct. The mike also is far enough away from your mouth that breathing isn´t picked up unless you weigh 400 pounds and do a damn good Darth Vader imitation.

>>>Is there an option to connect it to a speaker if you chose to do so?<<<

Not sure. But frankly, I don´t know why you´d want to.

>>>Is keyboard input optional?<<<

I don´t think it´s available. Not sure of USB support, but I haven´t seen a port.

>>>Do you notice any impact on the game flow when voice messages are being transmitted?<<<
None whatsoever. Zero. God bless broadband.
Hey, I know what I´m doing tonight. The kids and I are going to the mall, where I´ll get NHL 2K3. I´ll return home, my wife and I will put the kids to bed, and I´m going to start an NHL 2K3 Xbox Live festival!
Well, the success or failure of a console depends on its cost-to-fun ratio, in my eyes. Did I get $200 worth of fun from the PS2 in the nine months I owned it? Not really. I´ve owned the Xbox since June, and I already received $200 worth of fun from it before Xbox Live debuted. Now, the scales have nearly fell over in favor of fun as opposed to cost. I love my Xbox.

Hope to hear you soon on Xbox Live!
I can´t agree with you more Siam. XBL is absolutely amazing!!! I spent 45 minutes last night on Moto GP racing against a group of french-canadians, and even though I couldn´t understand a word they said, it was incredibly entertaining.

The ability to chat with people while playing a game adds so much more to the experience. I´ve only had a few situations where people were rude, and in those cases, turning down the volume on solved that problem easily enough. That and beating them to the finish line.

Almost all of the games I will be picking up (including NHL 2k3 tonight!!!) will be ones that have online capabilities.

Cheers
