Hopefully I´ll be able to get in on this one. I´ve added the patch and didn´t really notice any significant improvements. What am I supposed to be looking at that´s improved?

The tree rendering distance has been greatly expanded when tree perimeter is set to "very high". I notice a bid difference in the "course feel" on most courses because details that I know should be there aren´t clipped anymore.

Radeon 9500 + owners now have water ripples which look totally natural, as opposed to the hyperactive diamond-like grids we had previously. 1600 x 1200 res support has also been added for these cards.

Custom courses now have custom sounds where they should be. This helps the ambience big time for me.

They´ve also added some new custom library tools to allow designers to create custom rough. This is going to be a distinctive addition to the game.

I just turned in a ho-hum 73 in round 1. Strong winds make Pebble play considerably tougher. I only made two birdies in the round, and had to sink a lot of long par putts. Be careful on #8. I hit a friggin´ 4 iron off the tee, and still hit my tee shot into the gulf!

Hope you can make it db!

Same score for me John. Ever since my last round melt down 2 weeks ago (85 I think) I have been struggling big time. During my first round, if I finished a hole with a par it felt like a victory.

Today I thought I would put together a mini-run when I birdied 17 with a reachable par 5 to finish, but I came across my second shot on 18 and hooked it unplayable onto the rocks about 20 yards past the hole.

Frustrating, but its one of the reason this is the best golf game on the planet in my opinion.

I went +11 through 10, then -1 on the final 8 to finish with a +10. I had a wicked slice going through the first 9 that I just could not get under control.

I posted my usual UGLY score. I have´t played a round of TW in about 2 months though so I wasn´t expecting much better. I didn´t bogey from the 14 on though...so I got progressively better.

db, I wouldn´t be disappointed parring 14 through 18 in yesterday´s conditions - I played that stretch at +1. I think I only hit 4 fairways yesterday, and none of the par 3 greens. It was tough playing from the rough.

Don, -1 through the final 8? I´ll trade you!

Did anyone else hit their tee shot into the water on #8? I had a 30 mph wind behind me and my caddy gave me a 3 iron to hit. I dropped to a 4 iron and it was still too much!

I hit it in the drink on 8 too. Even after your warnings. LOL. I actually was -1 on 14-18. It was a nice little stretch after I got in a groove.

My caddy was giving me suspect clubs all round long. If things don´t get better during this tourney I´m tempted to give him his walking papers and just turn it off.

If someone sees a firing squad forming anywhere soon, how about notifying me so I can go and stand in front of it! I just shot one of my best tournament rounds of the year, a 65, finishing with an eagle on the final hole. I then go and screen dump and paste the leaderboard screen for posting on the website. As I´m exiting in a hurry to get back to the broswer, my dumb ass quits the tournament, instead of backing out to the main menu!

How many more friggin times does this have to happen to me to keep me from accidentally quitting a tournament!? I´m embarrassed to admit how many times this has happened to me. They need to build a build a special layer of prompts in for lunkheads like me who can´t make the right choice with only two chances to get it right!

Congrats to PingThis12K4 for his win at Pebble this week.

Round 3, I am sitting at -10 at 16 on the green in two. After SIX putts, I am at -6 and finish -6.

Round 4, I am -5 at #11. On the fringe in 2 and a 12 foot putt for birdie. Left #11 at -3 and for all intents and purposes, no chance to put pressure on the leader. Finished up by birdieing every hole coming in, but I am still only 6 shots in the lead. That won´t likely last the front nine as Keith is one helluva player.

The one thing about TW2004 that I have NEVER seen in any previous TW version is the ability to completely blow a round in one or two holes. I guess that is why after almost 3000 holes played (not including betas), I am still only averaging 67. 2003 I averaged 62 and TW 99 I had a 58 average. Love the difficulty and I love the fear that at any given moment, your round could go in the toilet.

Congrats again Keith on another fine showing!
lol......sounds like my Pebble experience this week. I started my 2nd round 5 under after 6 holes. Things started fading slowly but then after duck-hooking a shot o.b. on 17 I was on my 9th stroke on 18 before I pulled a "Daly" and vanished off the course courtesy of a quick stab at the power button on the front of my pc. First time I´ve ever done that playing a round of video game golf.

Boom: John has all the info at the top of this thread. This tourney ends today, but just keep an eye out for the next one. They usually run Thursday through Sunday.

Tim, your and Bob´s experiences are so typical of what I experience in this game. It´s so easy to let your guard down and overlook some variable that´s going to have a magnified effect on your shot if you don´t factor it. And then again there´s something about the interface that makes it tougher to repeat as reliably as year´s past. This is what has such a grip on my about this year´s version - I was missing this in TW 2003.

I´m averaging 70.8 right now playing almost exclusively in Advanced. I love the challenge at this ability level on most courses. I´m afraid I´ll never make it to Expert though, primarily because I can´t read the greens without the grid lines. I´ve tried every trick recommended to me and half the time, it´s pure guesswork. I´m not just talking about missing the magnitude of the break, I´m talking reading the break the wrong way! I hate it because I do like that added interface demand and impact purity requirement comes with Expert.

I really hate I denied myself a chance to finish this tournament - I was having an absolute blast playing this course this week with the real deal going on. Pebble has never played with this much character for me in the TW series, as it has this week.

Boom, you are free to join at any time. Next week´s event will begin on Thursday morning at 8:00 AM. It will be called Digital Sports 6 and the password will be "mars". We play advanced ability, but players of all ability levels are welcome to play.
I agree 100%. I would really like to see the option to turn on the grid in expert mode for TW 2005. To keep those happy that like to compete without the grid, just add another difficulty level, Master mode maybe, with the same interface demands as Expert but with the grid taken away.
