I opened the tournament with an 82 at Torrey Pines. The wind was calm, greens normal, and skies sunny. I had to doubles and one triple bogey in my round, but did manage to chip in for one birdie. Some of the pin placements are killer - be prepared!

I will be entering the tourney this afternoon. I can´t wait to post my 100+ score!! Although I am getting better. Still this is the most fun I have had with a golf game in some time.

Tincup, of PGA 2000 fame, has just posted a 7 under par 65 in the Digital Sports Open. That´s quite a score with the pin placements and heavy rough. Maybe the calm winds were to his liking! Oh well, I´m only 17 strokes off the lead... I´ve still got a chance!

Nice round Trues! I´ll have to visit the leaderboard to get more specifics of your round. Did you happen to see that Tincup had 11 birdies in his 65? He had a bogey, and and an "other"... it must have been a triple bogey to make his score 65. I also saw that he had three chip-ins in that round!

Out of curiousity, I take it you were a TW 2002 player? I dabbled at 2002, but I never could get into it because of all the problems it had, or at least had on my system. Problems or no, it didn´t have the physics or swing interface of 2003.

Well, started my tourney off with a very eventful 5 under 67. Started the round with a double bogie and thought "here we go". Worked my way to 3 under before a bogey at 16. Birdied 17 before the par 5 18th. After a nice drive I had a full 3-wood left to the green. With water short and sand to the right I thought about just laying up. That lasted all of 5 seconds and I ended up sticking my 3-wood about 12 ft away and converted the eagle.

What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, I haven´t tried master difficulty yet but for some reason I´m very, very accurate off of the tee so far in this game, almost too accurate for my liking since I used to be ALL over the place in PGA. Of course I just went out and bought a brand spanking new Intellimouse Optical just for this game so maybe thats doing the trick for me.
btm, that sounds adventurous, but you´ve got to take those chances to compete with some of these guys.

I´m using a Microsoft Basic mouse because I like something with a little weight to it. I´m sure and optical mouse is a help, but I somehow like the little bit of inertia I get from the ball in the mouse.

Are you using forged clubs and balata balls? That will help make it more difficult to control the ball. I didn´t find Master all that much more difficult from a swing standpoint. The loss of the aids hurts my putting pretty bad though.

You´re in the running - hang in there bro!

>>>"Are you using forged clubs and balata balls?"<<<

I didn´t mess with it so I´m just using the defaults which I believe are Light Perimeter weighted and Solid core.

After posting I fired up a round at Colonial on Master difficulty. I only played 5 holes but didn´t hit a fairway. I really liked what I saw, Trueswing felt very, very good. I wish there was a way to play Master difficulty but to also have the putting grid and other aids. I must have sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn´t press E to see the shot target cam.

I´m running at 1024X768 in 32-bit color but the green still appears a little muddy making it difficult to read the green without a grid. I just don´t think that the current state of video golf graphics are there yet to be able to simulate reading a putting surface without the use of some other type of aid. I might have to mess with my video card settings to see if I can make the image a little more crisp without taking too much of a performance hit.

I wasn´t able to get my round in tonight. But will tomorrow. I am sure my newbiness to TW golf will show when I shoot somewhere in the 100´s. But hey I can swallow my pride, someone has to come in last right??
BK, if you turn in a score, you´ll at least beat the "no carders"! I think you´ll enjoy it no matter what you shoot. Be gentle with the putter though. The biggest mistake you can make in this game is to hit putts too hard.

Oh I´ll definitely enjoy it. As a matter of fact I am loving this game more and more as I play. And actually I don´t care where I finish. I just love playing the game. Although my newbiness in this game is really gonna show. But I am sure I won´t lose any sleep over it.

Well I finished with a better than expected 84. Shot 80 on the front 9, and got off to a good start on the back 9. And then hit a spot where I really struggled. Could have been worse, I think playing at my own real home course of Torrey Pines helped me out also. Anyway I did better than I expected too.

We need to makes sure we have a few of these tourneys, they´re pretty damn fun.

I haven´t had a chance to play Tiger Woods yet. Is it possible to play a PGA-Tour like season online with friends?

Nope Jared, a feature like that is not available. Best you can do is a 72 hole tournament from the looks of it.

Just finished my round of +2! I was even on the 18th tee, but hit my drive 19 inches!! After that, I couldn´t stay on the fairway.

Anyone else have lockups? I haven´t had any offline, but this round took three attempts to complete.
I´ve had one lockup the whole time I´ve been playing TW 2003. That occured while I was waiting for a course to load during career mode. I had to do a cold reboot. This is a far cry from the woes I had with TW 2002! Not a bad round though Mac... nice going!

JC,

I hope the 19 inch drive was a mousefart, not a brainfart ! I´m not sure what was locking me up - I got a wierd error message about windows detecting a device failure, but no mention of WHICH device! As you say, much more stable than TW2002 so far...

Anyway, seems like you´ve got a great tourney going - would you consider starting The Digital Sports Golf Club so we can do it more ofter?
Device failure huh? That´s one I´ve only seen in my Logitech Profiler. Every now and then it fails to detect my Logitech Wingman Formula Force steering wheel, and I have to "refresh" the panel... that does the trick.

I´m not sure at this point how we might build on this tournament for something more ongoing. I´m going to study a few ideas and see where it leads. I see that our tournament is by far the most "attended" event on the tournament itenerary, so we might have something going. It would be hard to track any sort of season thing since I can´t tie the results into a database without a whole lot of hassle. We might come up with something though!

Question: How are you guys playing the tee shot on the 6th? I can´t believe they would stick a tree of that girth, so close to the teebox! The caddy puts a measly 6 iron in my hand... AS IF!? In the 2nd round there was a 12 mph crosswind blowing right to left, further complicating the shot. I played a 3 wood, and tried to hit a slice. I did get an outside in swing path, but the ball basically went straight. I wound up in the rough about 230 yards out, and realized it was about the best play I could have made.

Just wanted to hear some other strategies on this. I´m playing with weighted perimeter clubs, and that may have prevented me from working the ball like I needed to in that situation. I just switched to light perimeter clubs to see what difference that makes.

JC,

I´ve been experimenting with a punch shot with a long iron or a wood - also negates the crosswind a little . I´ve also tried a fade, with predictably disastrous results! I think there may be a gap in the trees on the right of the tee, if you are feeling REALLY lucky!

Well, I started round 2 off pretty well, but then struggle to finish with a 41 on the front 9.

The back 9 was a total disaster and I shot a 47, to finish the round at 88. Which is what I shot in real life at Torrey Pines when I actually played there a couple of weeks ago. Sad when you really play golf better in real life than in a video game. I suck, but it sure was fun. Hopefully we can do it again.
Sounds like we had opposite rounds bk. I doubled bogied both the par 3´s on the front nine after hitting my tee shot into hazards on both! I had a birdie on 9 to finish with a 39 on the front. I played the back 9 with a one birdie one bogey 36! I´m satisfied with par in conditions like we were playing that round in.
In real life, were you playing from the tournament tees though? Tell me, is that tree really that close to the 6th tee box IRL?
Thus far, I´ve found that the crosswind isn´t overly punative. In the example I used though, it did keep my fade from fading. I hit it with an outside-in swing, according to the the swing analyzer, but it went dead straight.

If I played from the Championship tee´s I don´t think I would ever finish a round out there.
Last time I was there that damned tree was like that.
Torrey Pines has to be one of the nicest Public Courses in the country. Actually San Diego is loaded with big time courses. My first job out of college was actually in the IT department for Callaway Golf. And Cobra and Taylor made´s buildings are actually right around the corner. If your in to Golf, this is a great place to be, plus with the weather here you can play all year round.
I am actually playing La Costa tomorrow (Which is where they used to have the Mercedes Open, and now have that big MAtch Play Tourney. )
