... it will be the last chance I get to see Ray Lewis play in a meaningful game until September.

The guy is the best f*cking linebacker I´ve ever seen, and I´ve been watching the NFL every Sunday since 1973, when I was 8.

I was 8 in ´73 also (wow) and i agree. There were guys that could tackle, ones that were great at sacks, but no linebacker EVER comes close to the total package of Ray. Speed, tackeling, pass defense and sacks.

Now he´ll have more time to kill people.

He may be a great linebacker, but he is class-A1 prick off as a person. At the very least he lied to the police. Just like Kobe who at the very least cheated on his wife, and yet millions still cheer them on like they are heroes.

Sorry, but I have no love for either one of them.

Actually, at the very least he sat back while two people were murdered, then left the scene without calling for help, and most likely aided the murderers in the getaway. Then he lied to police, and later ratted out his supposed "friends" and coped a plea bargain. Then, to top it all off, when he finally came out and talked about it in public did he say he was sorry? No! He complained about the press and talked about how it was never about those two kids and who murdered them, it was all about Ray Lewis.

He is an amazing football player, but yeah, its incredible to think this guy is still able to make millions, meanwhile I have a good friend who was a great teacher of special needs kids and a great coach, and because he is in the wrong place at the wrong time, he loses his job and is unable to teach again. And this is after all charges were dropped. It was literally a case of mistaken identity, yet because of the lame ass public school systems he has no job and will no longer be able to positively influence hundreds of kids.

Oh well, thats life, and its all our faults as sports fans that we allow our "heroes" to get away with things that any one of us would be fired for or jailed in a heartbeat.

Wait, wait: I didn´t nominate Ray Lewis for sainthood in my original post. The guy is a Grade-A prick, and I´m sick and tired of commentators apologizing for his "LOOK AT ME!!!" woofing on the field as "adrenaline" or "emotion."

Oh, and Lewis is either a murderer or an accomplice to a murder, too. A real model citizen.

But he still is the greatest linebacker I´ve ever seen. Better than LT.

I would add that he does the most with the least around him when doing a comparison. He has played with the inept Raven offenses that keep him on the field more then necessary. Of course being that I saw Jack Lambert and Mike Singeltary in action it would be hard pressed for me to say Lewis is the best overall in my time of watching football.
Could it possibly be that some people cheer for Kobes accomplishments on the court, yet still disagree with what he did off it? I hope that a few of those "millions" you refer to can think on a higher level then you make it out to be.

I don´t know LT is much better for one reason. Ray Lewis is playing for a team that has unsung Def Tackles. To me LT changed the position. Ray Lewis is just good at what he does and is good because he DL free him up.

Great LB yes, the best - I have a hard time buying that.

Yeah I agree, LT was a force of nature, someone whom teams gameplanned against. LBs often don´t have as much impact as the linemen, the QBs or the CBs but there´s no question LT played a big role in games.

What´s great about Lewis as a player is his leadership. He simply won´t let others play less than their best. Ravens have a lot of young defensive players and they´re playing with a lot of confidence because of Lewis.

As for his past, HBO had a feature reminding people about how controversial the incident was and about how Lewis´ reputation was somewhat resuscitated over time. They even noted how Lewis was featured on the cover of Madden one year, and how that was suppose to be a high profile thing for the NFL.

The Ravens are fun to watch, especially on defense because they hit and they have a terrific young playmaker in Ed Reed.

But they also rub people the wrong way, with figures like Lewis and Billick raising the ire of as many people as those who admire Lewis.

Ray Lewis is a punk that should be behind bars collecting stats for fending off ass-bandits.

But he´s not and I watch him play with hate and amazement. He is the best linebacker in the NFL. He is unreal!

His antics piss me off. Seeing his face on commercials piss me off. But when he plays I watch. He has set the bar pretty high for linebacker play in the NFL.

Nick Barnett, the Packers rookie linebacker has a shot to overshadow Lewis in the next few years. If you don´t know him,you will.

Everytime I see Lewis try to pull his talking intelligently act, I have one phrase in my mind..

"I cannot eat as much as I would like to throw up."

Lewis is s*****, and I greet his every misfortune with great joy.
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."

I usually try to stay away from rooting against teams/people, but it is very easy to root against Lewis and Billick. In this day when someone does a dance for a tackle they are suppose to make calling all attention to themselves, I tend to lean towards the less demonstrative player.

See McNair and George.

Although, that jawing with Lewis when George stiff-armed him to his ass was pretty cool.

Also why I will be rooting for Manning, James and Harrison today.

[ This message was edited by: Pete on 04-01-2004 09:25 ]

Lewis is overhyped by the media. LT is the best linebacker to ever play the game. Oh and how tough is Orlando Brown...he kicked Ray´s ass in the shower about a month ago!
Syke - I never said you loved the guy. You´re reading way toomuch into my post. I am simply airing out my opinions on the guy. Just because I said I had no love for him does not imply you do. Relax.

I´m about as relaxed a person you´ll ever find.

LT was no doubt a great LB and the best sack master ever at the position. So good he changed the position and offenses had to know where he was at all times.

But when you throw in tackeling, run pursuit and pass coverage Ray is the best ever IMHO.

I think offenses would rather run straight at LT than Ray.

was watching some old weekly nfl highlights today that i had stored on my dvr

under the helmet where they have alot of the on field chatter as well

i have always found Lewis like a Farve is just one of the best reasons too watch these kind of shows

it occurred too me while watching that the Irony of Ray Lewis is he will probably end up being like deon and or reggie white and going the preacher rout with his whole schtick
