What games are holding you over during this dead period?

Post by JRod »

Well I´m in a bind again. With no new games coming down the pipeline until NFL Street and then the Baseball games and WE7 it´s going to be a very dry gaming period.

Right now I have set up an english league for WE6:FE in which I´m going to try and play every game, keeping stats on a database for the entire season. So far i´m in week two and going strong.

I might head back to CM 01/02 as I can´t get into CM4. I´m not all that interested in 2D play. I know their are improvements oustide that engine but until they can bring the quality up (CM03/04) then I´m going to hold off.

I´m going to try to play FPF in ESPN again. The bugs in that game really got to me, like tackling and the like. And no amount of sliders could fix it. Some it´s not bad but Corey Dillion could break 15 tackles a run like no one´s business.

It might be time to try and catch up on the games I missed outside of sports.

Or it´s a good time to get some input on sports games that should be given another spin.

So what games are holding you over until the next wave of sports games are released.

Actually I am using this time to pick up some games I didnt have time to try before. Nhl Hitz Pro and Ghost Recon Island Thunder are the two I just picked up that will tie me over til Street comes out. Links and Inside Drive are still taking up a lot of my gaming time still however.

My god, dead period? I know nothing´s really coming out until WE and baseball besides Street but I feel completely bombarded right now. This is what´s keeping me busy (in no particular order):

Counterstrike
Rainbow Six 3
Amped 2
Links
Rivals
Inside Drive
College Hoops
SSX 3
True Crime
THUG
PGR2

That´s plenty to keep me busy.

Strangely enough, NHL Hitz 20-03.

Got this game in the bargain bin the other week, and MAN is it fun. Odd how such a supposedly arcade hockey game feels so much like real hockey. It´s great!

Hitz Pro was the best hockey game by far and away this year. it plays whatever kind of game you want to make it play. Anybody that passed on Hitz Pro this year is missing out. As far games that are tiding me over right now.

Hitz Pro(62 games into my Edmonton season)
Jak II(Awesome game....it´s got a GTA feel to it somewhat)
MOH Rising Sun(I actually like this game)
March Madness 2004(Still haven´t gotten into it 100% just yet but I will)
And now for the biggest suprise of all...my favorite game right now is Mario Kart Double Dash. I picked this up for my son for Christmas and we can´t put it down!

I´m going to look for another copy of World of Outlaws until WE7 comes out. Also, my daughter sort of has me interested in Age of Empires II for the PC, which she got for Christmas.

I don´t really play baseball games, so WE7 and CMR 4.0 this Spring is about it for my wish list.
Happy Nee Year!

Mo, Tjung,

I´m going to give hitz pro a whirl. I´m craving a good hockey game. Rivals, NHL 04 and ESPN didn´t quite make the grade for me. All had their strong points but the fun factor was sucked out.
Hey Dave ... is Champ Man 03/04 worth getting? I´m sure it´s good, but exactly how good is it, especially compared to previous editions?

Jrod,

Hitz Pro is all about fun factor. It also plays the best online of the hockey games this year in my book...that is if you have a PS2 of course. The things that make Hitz Pro the best hockey game this year to me are the amount of different goals that can be scored and the best goaltending animations ever seen in a video hockey game.
If the feedback on CM4 put you off it, even after patching, then CM 03/04 will get you right back into it. You may be sceptical about the 2D view at first, but once you´ve seen one of your little dots plant a header past the keeper in the last minute of the Vans Cup final, you´ll love it (final score - Hull City 3 Rushden & Diamonds 2..the fans love me)

Actually, jrod, I was just playing hitz 2003 and enjoying it immensely. Now I´ll have to try hitz pro. I play hockey games mostly with a friend of mine. We´ve been playing 2 player hockey since the Blades of Steel days, and this is about the most fun we´ve had. My top two player hockey games, in no particular order are:
Blades of Steel
NES Hockey
NHL 94
NHL 2004 (ten years of utter crap in between--amazing!)
NHL Hitz 2003

Now I´ll have to try pro.

Well CM03/04 isn´t quite back for me. There´s a few things in many CM forums that reach the level of sizable problem. Just like last year´s NFL 2k4 catching problem, this year´s Madden NCAA import problem. When forums blow up like then you know something isn´t quite right.

I´m just not a fan of watching football in a video game. I have LMA manager and it´s a good game and CM4 and the watching the game kills me. The problem isn´t with the 2D mode at all. It´s the ease in which I progressed through CM01/02. In three nights of just watching Prime Time TV I could progress through a season. (That was in the moments where I had nothign to do). The 2D mode slows everything down a bit.

CM03/04 is a sizable improvement but I´m going to wait for a few more patches to get it.

I don´t know what the hell is wrong with me but I have not picked up the X-Box controller since my ´holiday´ break started on the 15th of December.

The only game I have played has been Dance Dance with my family and a little LOTR´s on PC.
