I'm pretty sure Teal did backflips when he heard the news.

Hell, I pulled out the old 360 to fire up the last NCAA game and played 15 seasons recently.

Key points:
-Holt said there is not a date on when the game will return or even a date when the return will be announced other than it won't be coming back for this year.

-FBS schools, traditions, uniforms and playbooks -- among other things -- ready to go for the game. Over 100 teams will be in the game.

-For now, EA Sports is planning to move forward without rosters that include the names, images or likenesses of real college players. Current NCAA rules prohibit athletes from selling their NIL rights while in college....However, those rules are likely to be changed at some point in the coming year -- by the NCAA, state legislatures or Congress.
I checked out of video football games a while back, I wonder if this draws me back (whenever it does come out).

The way ESPN is posting about this non-stop today there has to be some kind of deal where they are involved.

Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick says ND won’t participate in EA Sports’ revived college football video game until “rules have been finalized governing the participation of our student-athletes.”

ND wants its players to benefit from an NIL standpoint.

Fine with me, I don't need the most over rated program in the country in the game.

Damn. It's always fun to get good recruiting classes and fail with Notre Dame, an example of the game mirroring real life.

If ND is not included in the game it becomes an automatic day one buy for me.

As of right now, there are currently 9 teams that are NOT in the game.

Air Force, Army, Georgia State, Kentucky, Navy, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Troy and USC.

EA Sports College Football Coming July 2023, Exclusive To PS5 And Xbox Series X|S
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ea-sp ... 0-6507541/

EA's college football video game series is coming back with a new title called EA Sports College Football, and now more details about the game have emerged.

The Athletic reports that EA Sports College Football will be released in July 2023, just ahead of the start of the next college football season. The report also claims the title will "likely" be exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and won't come to previous-generation systems.

The site's sources further stated that EA Sports College Football will be the "most detailed college football game ever." It is said to run on the Madden engine and will have things like "new stadium angles" and a feature that replicates the new transfer portal. The game could also feature a 12-team College Football Playoff feature to represent what is happening in real life.

A big question hanging over the game is whether or not real players will be featured in the game. EA is developing the game without the NCAA and is instead cutting deals with rights-owners like the Collegiate Licensing Company, which covers many FBS schools. EA is reportedly in the middle of acquiring photos, videos, and audio from 133 current and future FBS schools, including fight songs, stadium layouts, uniforms, helmet stickers, and more.

As for whether or not there will be real players in EA Sports College Football, this is uncertain, but the report said some kind of group licensing deal could make it happen. After all, college athletes can now make money off their likeness through NIL (name, image, likeness) deals.

The full report at The Athletic has many more details, so be sure to read the full story to learn more.

The last college sports game from EA Sports was NCAA Football 14. EA ended the series due to lawsuits and other legal issues involving the NCAA.

I gotta be honest.

I'm not really enthused about it. And I have been one of the biggest fans of college football games in the past. I would line up near midnight on release day with others at GameSpot to get it early, and stay up the rest of the night playing it.

But this announcement, and the descriptions, just aren't moving a needle any more. I think it's because of all the crap between ncaa 14 and now. I'm not a pro football guy, and ncaa football has become a g league of sorts for the NFL, rather than being about the colleges.

Or maybe I'm just getting older and caring less. Dunno. I'm surprised at my reaction, really.
