PS2.IGN.com - Tiger Woods 2003: Best ever!

IGN says that the latest version of the Tiger Woods series is the best console golf game ever. Here´s a snippet of the review:
 
 Enter Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003. The title, developed internally at EA, wraps real and fantasy courses and pro golfers, a wide selection of mini-games and challenges, plus more, around what has to be the most solid gameplay mechanics and 3D engine yet seen in a console golf game. The franchise still isn´t quite perfect -- there are a couple of omissions and oversights that we´d have preferred were addressed -- but it´s easily and without doubt the best golf videogame experience in years, and one deserving to be thought of in the same light that Madden is to football.

 Thanks for sharing that news with us here. I can see how IGN could arrive at this conclusion based on the advancements of TW 2003, and what I experienced with TW 2002 on the PS2. 2002 is truly a wonderful production, and its physics were actually superior to the PC version in most respects.
 
 Tell me, was any mention made of the chipping game? In TW 2002 there wasn´t what I consider a true chip shot. You were pretty much forced to hit short pitch shots, in lieu of the more commonly seen bump and run type chip.
 
 Some of the camera panning and zoom work last year was literally stunning. From what I´ve seen in AVI´s and screen shots, it looks like 2003 may even be more breathtaking in that department.
 
 I just wish they could have seen fit to incorporate a slope grid and proportional analog thumbstick swing to the putting game. Ripping a putt with 100% stroke takes an important element of "touch" out of the game.
 
 And for goodness sake; why no season or tour mode!? They could have easily incorporated that feature and expanded the games longevity ten fold!

 I believe that Tiger 2003 is a fine game, as I really enjoyed Tiger 2002 for a while.
 
 But Tiger 2002 suffered from an ease of play that provided very little challenge after a couple of weeks. I was shooting in the high 50´s and low 60´s regularly after playing this game for a few weeks, so I ditched it.
 
 Was there any indication that the challenge of Tiger 2003 was stiffer than last year´s game? If not, I´ll definitely rent this game first and probably pass on a purchase.

About the competition:
 Meanwhile, the modes are plentiful, varied, and the artificial intelligence a noteworthy foe. The AI matches in the game´s main mode, Tiger Challenge, are riveting. We´ve gone through 18 holes neck-in-neck with our opponents, who are not dumbed down, but very skilled, and come away with shortened fingernails and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.
 
 I don´t think it mentioned ripping. Anyway, you should be able to read the review in a few days. For now it´s for "Insiders" only.

 I´ve spoken to someone who has played TW 2003 PS2, and he has confirmed that the putting is the same as last year... IOW - grip it and rip it <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_frown.gif">
