Disney announced today it will buy Lucasfilm for $4 billion in cash and stock.

George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise and CEO of Lucasfilm, owns 100% of the company.

Even better: A new Star Wars movie, Episode VII, will debut in 2015. Two more movies will launch after that. :D

I saw this quote in another article.
In 2015, we’re planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the “Disney-Lucasfilm” brand. That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.
Get ready for Star Wars 11 in 2024!!

My 4 and 6 year old boys are REALLY excited!

They love playing the Lego Star Wars games on the Wii and my 6 year old builds start wars vehicles and simulated battle with his legos.

HUGE WIN for them!

I haven't watched any of the more recent movies after the original trilogy.

The first 3 were triumphs of visual effects, with the hand-made models and so on. Even then, you'd see these "making of" documentaries where they tried to invest deep meaning in the movies, which was hooey.

Lucas is a mogul, Coppola is a vintner and Scorcese makes glossy schlock which don't compare with his great films -- at least the last two made some great films. They should all hang it up.

That was my initial reaction too, but the optimist in me is sort of coming around to this position:

That is a good article that star wars fans should read. Personally, nothing could be worse than Phantom Menace and Jar Jar. That s*** is unwatchable. I'll just enjoy the ride with what comes in the new movies.

not feeling it. same old star wars i guess. Wouldn't you think they'd upgrade the Millenium Falcon? It's like someone driving a 57 chevy these days and telling everyone it's state of the art. I hope Chewbacca has some grey hairs too. Change it up a little at least. That narrator in the trailer sucked too. I'll probably end up watching it, but I hope these new movies aren't disney movies like the last 3 prequels were.

Someone driving a '57 Chevy today looks every bit, if not more, badass than someone driving it in 1957. Same principle applies here.

The Falcon would be considered aircraft/spacecraft rather than a car, correct? In that case since the new movies take place 20 years after the original trilogy it's not odd that the ship would be the same since fighter jets like the F-16 and the F-15 have been around since the mid 70s. Even the F22 first flew over 10 years ago.

Also, the Falcon looks different in the trailer than the original trilogy.

ya it looks like a CGI piece of crap. WTF is with CGI, it's ruining movies. It may look fine now, but in a few years itll look so bad. Look at the pre-quel's, the cgi doesn't live up. I liked the old fashioned puppetry or figurines. At least they still look legit and passable from the original movies.

My appetite is whet. It should be a fun movie.

Regarding the effects, the producers have been talking up using less CGI, and more real locations and real life FX droids on set. I wouldn't expect to see miniature models for the dogfights though.

Second, CGI shots are almost always significantly improved from the first teaser trailers to the final release.

Third, it completely makes sense from a practical standpoint, as well as a fanboy perspective, to see all the classic ships in a movie set about 25 years later.

Physical models...

I mean, hey, it can't be any worse than the last three, no?

I'll take some CGI with good acting over the "acting" and story we got from the prequels............

I'm excited to see what Disney and JJ can do.

If the Star Trek reboot is any guide JJ will blind us with bloody lens flare effects and recycle classic dialogue. He's bloody awful.
