Call of Duty: WWII

Post by pk500 »

Looks like Activision is returning this franchise to its roots. Encouraging, as the futuristic direction that COD has headed the last few games was garbage.

http://www.theverge.com/2017/4/21/15386 ... -announced

It would be cool as hell of COD: WWII covered all three theaters of the war -- Europe, the Pacific and North Africa. Details to be announced in livestream next Wednesday.

Lose the constant cartoonish kill streaks rewards and sniper-rifle quick scoping and I might give this game a shot.

It's looking more and more like this game will be set in the European theater, probably Normandy. Leaked screenshots show U.S. soldiers with Big Red One patch, and teaser trailer shows tide moving in and out on sand.

Just found this, too: http://wccftech.com/cod-wwii-leak-blowo ... coop-beta/

Starting to sound more and more like Sledgehammer developers had a pizza-and-beer party over a "Band of Brothers" marathon and thought, "F*ck, this would make for a great game!"

That would be brilliant. Fingers crossed for something special.

I Love the WWII era so I am happy they are taking the franchise there. Lets hope they dont "F" it up. I am officially intrigued.

I've always thought it was clear the Saving Private Ryan inspired Medal of Honor on PS1.

Then Band of Brothers inspired Call of Duty (2003)

Band of Brothers Carentan assault:

Carentan MP level in COD1:

Anyway, just me geeking out about WW2 games/movies. Hoping for the best and a return to form for COD WW2.

Brothers in Arms was a great one too. Characters were based on real guys. Missions were the real deal.

Brothers in Arms and Full Spectrum Warrior are two franchises I would LOVE to see revived on current-gen systems.

Like 95% of that trailer looked like cut scenes.

Me too! I'll be preordering in a day or two. I wish the Xbox beta was as early as the PS4 one...oh well.

I'll be getting this on day one. What I am really hoping for is Battlefield's return to WWII.

I appreciate how everyone is excited about COD's return to its WWII roots. But the gameplay pace and objectives look absolutely no different than recent COD games.

This is the same as the last COD game, minus outer space and the exoskeletons. It's run and gun, with M1 Garands instead of laser rifles.

But this is the level to which most military FPS console games have devolved. Battlefield has become more run and gun through its years, too.

The only tactical and strategic military FPS console games left are the Ubisoft Clancy games. Oh, what I wouldn't do for an Operation Flashpoint: Red River sequel on this generation of consoles.

Yes it is unfortunate for people who only play on consoles. There is a slew of good games on the PC that are a bit less twitch shooters but it is easier for an Indy dev to go that route then try to compete with the big boys on the consoles. OPF and ARMA are some of my favorite games.

Here are a few I plan on trying.

LOL! Good point!

I loved COD1 (PC) and MW1 so much, but have pretty much sworn off CODs last few years. I've also passed on the last few Battlefields and Titanfall from online shooter fatigue.

Perhaps I could be tempted back if this is real back-to-basics COD online: fast-paced, satisfying gunplay, tone down the toys/exoskeletons and killstreaks.

I don't want hardcore sim, but I want to play a game about shooting other people with guns and vice versa, not wall-running and remote control cars or some other nonsense. No more quick-scoping sniper rifles would be nice too.

Love the return to the best theater of war, dunno if I can take the spastic COD thing anymore though. Want to play the story, but man, the mp just looks twitchy still. I ache for another Brothers in Arms...

I'd take Full Spectrum Warrior 3, a new Operation: Flashpoint game or ARMA ported to consoles, too ... ;)

Oh, hell yeah. One of my laments about jumping to the xb1 is that I can no longer play Full Spectrum Warrior... :(

I played the beta for about an hour today. It's still COD but I had fun. The War mode is fun. Objective based. I have 2 beta codes for XB1 if anyone wants one. Just PM me. First come first served.

Thanks for the code. Its the same COD multiplayer. Had some fun in a party with some friends, won a few and got crushed - spawn, die, repeat. The shotgun is ridiculous.
I've mostly liked the COD campaigns, so I always buy it, play some mp till I finish the campaign, then dump it.
