Rocket League League interest?!!!

Post by webdanzer »

All right you Xbox One Only f'ers.

Rocket League comes to Xbox One on 2/17. It brings all the joys of pond hockey, soccer, and rewarding physics based play to your consoles in bite size nuggets of 5 minute matches. I would be astounded if this doesn't develop a following among the crowd here. It is literally the most fun I have had with a console game in the last 3 years.

I would LOVE to run a league here, and would like to know who may be interested. I'm thinking we could run a standard (3x3) and doubles league side by side, and have matches be best 2 out of 3 games. That's under a half hour of commitment per game.

I'm in for sure.

You WILL be interested! :) Sign up below!

I just played this for the first time ever last night after my son hounded me for the past week.

I can see the reason for the hype. I absolutely suck, but it was a great time. I would have interest.

Depending on the night, I certainly would have interest as well.

It's a day one purchase from me, so I would be interested. My availability may be wonky, though.

My first inclination would be NOT to have a set night, but to have league teams to work out within a week when they can find 20ish minutes of time to play. That's all it will take.

I'm hoping this functions as methadone for my Fallout 4 problem.

My oldest son has been playing this on PC for quite a while and loves it!

For us guys that loves cars and soccer, what's there not to love? At least now I can play it sitting on my couch and on my 70" Vizio.

Never played it. I don't want to get it if I'm not going to play it but it does intrigue me bit.

Rocket League is available now for Xbox. Released a few hours early.

THIS GAME IS F*CKING FUN AS HELL. My sons and I have laughed our balls off playing it for the last 30 minutes.

Back to Rocket League!

Couldn't figure out how to get in the same game with RobV last night. I'm sure some of it might be my unfamiliarity with the system, but looking forward to jumping on with you guys again.

Gameplay is a little jerkier than PS4 version, but that game has been out for a while now there with several updates/upgrades. Overall, a really good port.

Get some gametime in, folks! Then I'll post up some doubles/standard league signups! :D

As a local multiplayer game, it doesn't get much better. Can't wait till my son can control a car well enough to play. Might be a few years still, lol.

Had my first hat trick today and also saved a potentially game-tying goal off the line with a backflip and :01 left on the clock. So much crazy fun!

Good games last night, Rob and G7!

I cost us that last one with some horrific goal defense. :( Liked getting that 10 in a row victories before that, though!

So much fun! I shall try to make my fleeting dalliances with adequacy a more frequent occurrence.

Geeze, I barely even get a goal. I'm usually the idiot zooming around BARELY missing the ball in every interaction. Game is so fun, but I suck so badly.

I thought I was getting reasonably ok playing with randoms. Then I jumped on with G7 and Web and I looked like a puppy chasing my tail. :)

I can score here and there and I can contribute on offense, but defense is a freaking nightmare for me. Those crazy slow, high bouncing shots just give me fits.

Yeah, the whiff-happy, zoom-about phase needs to be experienced when you start for sure!

Two recommendations:

1) Play with the camera settings to find what you like! I recommend zooming out at least a little to give you more awareness around your car. Many of the high level players max it out that way.

2)Get used to both ball and car cam, and use the camera toggle during the match. I actually use that button about as much as brake and slide! Depending on the situation, both cameras are useful, and toggling perspective can get you the right look at the right time.

One of the 'noob' things I figured wouldn't be an issue with this crew of online team soccer/hockey veterans here is the lack of maintaining proper space and positioning. So often everyone piles into each other for the ball, abandoning defense, and knocking each other all over the place.

Maintaining a positional 'cycle' is important too, allowing the field to be covered and supporting your teammates while allowing for boost recharge opportunities. There's a cool diagram online. I don't follow it to the letter, but it provides a useful framework on how you should be thinking.
