But if Forza 5 is a polished gem, PCars on the XBO is a No-Pest Strip. Bugs galore, even after patches. There's a fantastic racing game somewhere in the package, but I lost the stamina to wait for the patches and continue to endure the repeated arrogance of the development team about its product.

I might recommend PCars for the XBO if Forza 6 wasn't on the horizon. I probably still would own it. But with Forza 6 being released in five weeks, it was easy for me to jettison PCars.
Amen brother! My sentiments exactly. I would have traded mine in, if not for the fact I bought the digital download. :) The other thing I would add about the Xbox One version, is that I would not consider it next-gen from a graphics perspective. I have never seen it on PS4, and it is a beauty on the PC if you have the power to run it at full details, but the Xbox One version is down-right ugly in some scenarios. Forza 5 and Horizon 2 have it beat easliy, and Forza 6 will only look even better. In technical aspects, Turn 10 Studios are aiming for a constant 60fps at 1080p resolution, while raising the number of cars on track to 24.

An example of the bugs/lack of features/arrogance is the following new feature coming in the 3.0 patch:
Project CARS – Patch 3.0 – Release Notes
New & Enhanced Feature Summary
* New – Friends Leader boards – players can now toggle between viewing ‘ALL’ and ‘FRIENDS ONLY’ on the leaderboards screen.
* New – Multiplayer Spectate Mode – players can now choose to ‘Retire to Pit Box’ during a race, and then spectate the ongoing race.
* Enhanced MP vehicle grouping – online races now use real-world vehicle classes. This results in far better vehicle performance matching for online races.
* New – Xbox One – added an Online Browse feature whereby the player can browse for specific lobbies.
Wait, what?!? You mean you have now added a feature that I believe was available in Project Gotham Racing 2 on the original Xbox back in 2003, and has been a given/default feature of every racing game on Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One to date?

There are a lot of updates coming in the 3.0 patch, but like Paul said, I just got tired of waiting for updates and having to reconfigure my controls and force feedback settings everytime.

It's pretty much where I fell. I really wanted to like PCars, because I like the Shift games they put out, but I needed this to be a game that made me not care about Forza 6. And Forza 6 looks like it is going to fantastic, even if it doesn't reach for more sim like stuff with longer races. I think the social stuff and leagues are going to be awesome, with more cars and some really fantastic tracks.

I like my racers more o the arcade side, and honestly, Forza 6 can be dumbed down plenty, and it can do that without all of the other headaches, and more features. Throw in Forza Rewards, and Turn 10 has given me plenty of reasons to just stick with Forza and Forza Horizon for my racing needs.

Was there ever any progress made in terms of improving the PS4 controls for this game?

It was on my radar for a long time, and now I'm looking for a game to download so that I can jump in for a quick race once in a while. It's either this or Driveclub Bikes (which I hear is quite good, and I've really enjoyed the main game).

Stay away for Project Cars? Or will a couple of controller tweaks at the beginning get me on my way?

True. And every vendor selling it for that price should throw in a free dime bag or flask of scotch for the inevitable frustration you'll endure with all of the bugs and framerate stutters, even after four major patches.

I've never seen or played a game released at retail in a more putrid state of beta than Project Cars. You hear the melodramatic phrase "The game is BROKEN!" far too often when people have trouble adapting to a game or if the game is released with a few bugs. But that phrase was so true with the initial release of Project Cars. And it's still as buggy as a Caribbean island in the summer.

Driveclub bikes it is!

Yeah, thanks PK - that's what I thought...was just hoping that something had been done about it all. But I'm sure that once a game is that broken, there's no turning back.

I'm not a gear head like a lot of you, but I'm really enjoying driving games as my "go to" for when I want to chill for a bit with my PS4. Sadly, I don't have the time or patience for hardcore games anymore. So it's a mix of pick up and play racing games, straightforward action games where I don't have to craft/hack/manage, and adventure games like Life is Strange/Walking Dead that allow me to enjoy a cool experience without a lot of time invested/effort.

Unfortunately, in terms of driving on the PS4 (besides Driveclub which is a sleeper hit for me), F1 looks underwhelming, and I don't have super high hopes for WRC5 (although I may give it a try).

FWI, the game on the PS4 is not as broken as the X1 version apparently, so there's that if you want to snag it for $20 bucks.

Very true. I don't own a PS4, but that version of the game clearly took priority during development and isn't nearly as bug-ridden. I'd grab Project Cars for $20 for the PS4, especially since you're in a driving game groove. Project Cars is beyond sublime when it works, which happens on the XB1 about as often as Donald Trump doesn't comb his hair.

Its VERY GOOD on PS4. I didnt do much tweaking at all and my controls were just fine. I did sell it but at times miss it. I may pick it up if it's 20 bucks, but I'm really looking forward to Forza 6 so that's that.

I really love the carts in the game. They should just make a whole game on the carts in this game. I would buy it.

PK - Does Forza 6 have carts?

The carts in the PS4 version must be way better than Xbox because the carts are shite on the box.

This post reminded me why I sold it.

The sole reason for most of my enjoyment of PC on PS4 was the carts. When the game got away from the carts it wasn't as fun for me anymore.

Also the whole career mode in the game is really crap. It's like you keep racing events but it really doesn't feel like they're counting for anything. It feels like single play now exhibition races rather than races strung together for career mode.

The on the track racing is fun at least on ps4, but the career mode is not put together well. I never tried online

Thanks guys - I'll keep it on my radar. If it drops to $20 here in Canada, and also on PSN, I might give it a download.

For now, I downloaded Driveclub Bikes. It's a pretty arcade take on the sport, but I find myself really enjoying the shift from regular cars in Driveclub to the two wheelers. Having to shift your weight really lets you feel each turn, and thus I find it really responsive and rewarding. Plus, the gorgeous tracks in this game are perfect for bikes and I even appreciate the added space on the track when racing against opponents.

Project Cars carts does sound fun that's for sure...would love to see how great the camera looks in those open machines.

After getting really frustrated by Forza after getting the G920 wheel, I decided to give Project Cars a try - found a new copy for $10 and figured why not.. Holy sh*t the wheel makes this a completely new game. I've only done hot laps in a few different cars while getting used to the feel of the steering, but I'm going to be playing this a lot more in the future. I've already caught an oversteering car more often with the wheel than I did in the couple months I played with a controller on PS4.

It doesn't change the fact that it is completely idiotic to release a console game that relies on using a wheel to get the most out of it, but at least I can enjoy the game now.

Now I just need to figure out how to get Forza to feel this good with the wheel.

The oddest thing is that I have had the exact opposite experience with the Thrustmaster TX wheel with Forza 6 and Project Cars. Even after all the patches, I can't get Project Cars to feel close to the way Forza 6 FFB feels with my wheel. Project Cars on the PC has pretty good FFB in comparison. I had better luck with a gamepad on Project Cars on Xbox One vs the wheel. Project Cars has almost too many FFB options to tweak that I spent all my time trying out different settings and never racing, but Forza 6 FFB settings I have been just using the default with great results. Stranger still are the number of posts in the Turn 10 forums complaining about how bad the FFB and steering is with Forza 6 and the Thrustmaster TX wheel, yet it feels great to me (best yet), and I have used FFB wheels exclusively for every single Forza game since Forza Motorsport 2. Point is with wheels, consoles, and PC's, there are so many variables, settings, and preferences that one persons perfection can be anothers piece of crap. It's annoying for sure.

Project CARS – Xbox One Update 9.0 Now Available

News from VirtualR.net

http://www.virtualr.net/project-cars-xb ... -available
Xbox One users of Project CARS can now enjoy all the latest improvements added to the WMD-powered simulation as the Xbox One version of the 9.0 update is now available!

Aside from adding all the changes listed below, the 9.0 update lays the groundwork for Project CARS’ upcoming American-themed DLC pack that will be available starting March 1 – Until then, you can check out the latest video trailer showcasing the new cars here.

Xbox One 9.0 Update Changelog

Vehicles
• Aston Martin GTE – adjusted the AI suspension damper rates down to better handle curbs
• BMW 2002 SW – Adjusted default setup for better drivability. Adjusted optimum temperatures and heating to move the optimum running temp closer to 180F. Adjusted cockpit camera position.
• BMW 1M SW – Changed transmission to sequential, paddle shift to match the 3D model
• BMW 2002 Turbo – Speed adjustments for player and AI for better match in the Vintage racing class.
• Formula Renault 3.5 – Raised collision mesh and adjusted default setup for better curb behaviour. Adjusted various other setup items to make player drivability better. Upped tire temperature build-up to get the tires more in the optimum range to use more of the intended grip with the default tire pressures and setup.
• Ford Escort, Mercedes 300SEL – Balanced the speeds better against the new BMW Stance Works car for the same class. Slight improvements in available grip through moving them into better optimum heat/grip range. AI speeds changed to match.
• McLaren F1 GTR: Fixed an issue where parts of the car would clip through other parts when damaged.

Tracks
• Road America – New race line and corridor tweaking. The main goal was to keep the AI off the curbs so heavily, as with the massive alligator teeth here cause the stiffer car fits and lifting off the throttle.
• Silverstone Classic – Fixed an issue that caused the game to dramatically slow down and at times crash during pitting in a multiplayer race.

Tires
• Reworked some vintage tires to get a better average temperatures increase, resolve severe flat spotting, localized overheating and too-easy punctures which were being reported.

Audio
• Ford Falcon – Reworked the vehicle sounds to a closer match of the real car

Nice to see tweaks to Formula Renault. That car was diabolical to drive with the previous default setup -- tougher than the Formula A (F1 car), in many respects.

Those settings are almost identical to what I am using. I guess that's not surprising

All I have is less controller filtering, but the rest is the same.

Yeah, but you're a f*ck of a lot quicker than me.

The guy who posted these settings suggested filtering from 0-15. I always prefer higher filtering settings, so I went with 15. Personal preference may vary, as always! :)
