Excellent. We can finally find out what we've got in...Jimmy Clausen?

Great move.

More likely the coaching staff knows they are gone so they are putting him in. They have nothing to lose, he is expected to suck and if by some chance he performs well and proves the offense can work it makes Emery look foolish. Likely ensures Cutler will demand a trade and we can start looking to a brighter future without that worthless POS.

The Bears problems lie much deeper than just Cutler. Deeper than Trestman. Deeper than Emery. I'm of the mindset that a clean sweep is pointless as long as Ted Philips is still President. They need to move him over strictly to the business side of things and bring in an actual President of Football Operations. Anything shy of that and there's no reason to get excited about anything.

Since they hired Angelo, this is essentially what they've done. Reports consistently suggest that the GM's have had complete autonomy from Phillips with regard to the football decisions.

There are two proximate causes of this mess. The first, which everybody focuses on, is the decision-making of Emery. For every good move (shoring up the OL and DL), there is a bad one, (drafting McClellean, retaining Tucker). Choosing Trestman, who despite the improvements on offense last year was clearly a poorer choice than Arians, appears to be a fatally bad decision. As refreshing as I found Trestman's approach, his philosophy was clearly too laissez faire for an NFL locker room (or at least this one).

The second principal cause has a much longer tail. Draft failure has an exponentially damaging effect on a roster. Not only does the depth suffer from a lack of talent infusion, but you end up needing to spend valuable cap space retaining or bringing in FA's to plug the gaps. Jerry Angelo's mess is still very much killing this roster.

I really don't understand the point of putting Clausen in unless the Bears have already decided to cut ties with Cutler. That would be horrendous for the cap next season, but maybe they feel it's better to just start over. If they still plan to keep him, this is yet another dumb move in a season full of them.

Regardless, whatever window this team had to compete with this group is closed shut. Their best bet would be to take a page out of the Cubs playbook, scrap as many vets as they can, and horde picks.

Yes, yes and yes.

Clausen? Why? Especially knowing that Cutler's history says, for one reason or another, that he wont make it through a full season.

Like I heard Jurko say...Torch it.

Bears in a game at the end of the first half and without a turnover?

How could this be? :D

I needed to get over the initial shock that it is Jimmy Clausen but the same thing happened last year with another qb who had no career.

The offense is just more efficient with out that human turnover machine.

The Lions are scary stupid. Dumbest team ever.

Imagine if Jefferies could catch a ball, what a shitty year he is having. Or if The Black Unicorn hadn't check out about 3 weeks ago.

All I know this was the first Bears game since SF that was worth watching.

At least Philbin will be back in Miami next year. Wtf? I guess for the sake of continuity its a good idea but I just never thought it would happen.

And blocked punt for the win...I'll take it.

My only thought about Philbin coming back is, who would thy get if they canned him? They are not getting Harbaugh or any proven coach. So since they have proved each yr, though slightly, I can see giving him one more year.

Philbin has one year left on his contract and maybe Ross hopes he can turn the corner like Jason Garrett has done in Dallas. What better choices are there? Rex Ryan? I say let him finish out his contract and allow Bill Lazor to grow a 2nd year as OC. If Philbin is canned next year, possibly promote from within.

Our QB/RB Russell Wilson was ridiculous again tonight. Despite the wasted FG's the road to home field advantage was never in doubt. Lynch had a beast of a run too despite his illness, looking forward to seal it all next week in SEA where we thank you personally XXXIV. 8)

Did you really think Arizona had any chance with a 3rd string QB?

Are you suggesting that the result would have been different with their first two? Not surprised about the win, but definitely shocked that they pumped almost 600 yds of offense against a not too shabby defense.

I'd take Fisher as Bears HC in a heartbeat over any of the mentioned candidates.
