Free Games with XBL Gold

Post by Teal »

I figured now that XBL was doling out some (quite old) free games, a thread that gave a heads up wouldn't hurt. Right now, Crackdown is available for free. On or around the 15th of August, Dead Rising 2 will be the freebie.

I played Crackdown to death, but it's been a lot of fun diving back into that world so long after initially playing it. There's also a 4 player co-op DLC that's free, I think, so a few guys can cause mayhem together.

I never played DR2, so that will be new to me.

I loved the original Crackdown and still have the disc but I didn't care for Crackdown2 nearly as much. I went ahead and downloaded the original again so I don't have to swap discs and may have to play my way through the game again.

Last month I downloaded Assassins Creed 2, I think I'm late to the party, but what are some of the other games that been given away for free?

I don't know if they're free beyond the month they're offered, but it started with Fable III.

I think that as long as you download it when it's free, you "own" it. I downloaded Fable III when it was free, then deleted it to make room for Assassin's Creed II. I checked and saw that I can still download Fable III, so it must work that way.

Yup, MS has said if you have a Gold account and download any of the 2 games on offer for the month, they are yours to keep for good.

Defense Grid: The Awakening was the game between Fable III and AC II.

After staying up way too late, I'm reminded that, indeed, Crackdown most deservedly earns the "crack" in its name. Still chasing orbs after all these years...lol

Is this what you are looking to do?

I did this when I first picked up the slim. With all the game downloads, DLC and installs I ended up eventually upgrading to a new 320GB drive. OEM only cost about $50 now.

BOT - I loved Crackdown, so I kept it in my collection. But I never got to play much co-op since I picked it up late. I think I'll download a free copy and give my disc away.

I tried Dead Rising: Case Zero (that'll be free too in the 2nd half of August). Not a big fan, but for free I'll get DR2.

My problem with these download games is I don't get to them, partly because I know I have them for good and forget about them. I still have to start Fable 3. Way too many XBLA, PSN and Steam games I picked up on sale and barely looked at.

Hear ya. Never played before yesterday. Played it almost all day sunday.

In the end though, and I know Im 6 yrs late, I have to say they could have done much more with it. Its pretty shallow.

Took me back to my high school days at the arcade.

The next set of free games for Xbox Live Members in September will be Magic 2013 and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas.

Starting Sunday (September 1st) Magic 2013 (Normally US $9.99) will be free for Xbox LIVE Gold members through September 15th .

Then on September 16th, Xbox Live Gold Members can download Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas (Normally US $19.99) for free. Note: South Africa Xbox Live members will receive Shadowrun instead of RSV.

Iron Brigade (reg. $10) is free until the end of the month. It's a mix of tower-defense and action (third-person mech shooter) that got pretty good reviews. Online co-op for up 4 players.

I'm sure there is like...3 people on the planet that didn't already own/play Gears of War to death years ago.

You two f***in troublemakers! lol

I'm in agreement with Terry. Microsoft continuing to kill it with their free game selection. I know I'm complaining about a free game but compared to PSN it's shameful - this month PSN+ has Borderlands 2 (TWO) and Grid 2 for free. BORDERLANDS 2!
