Takedown: Red Sabre

Post by Teal »

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/22/taked ... #continued

I've been keeping tabs on this one for awhile now, and I'm glad it's starting to get some press. This is designed to be the kind of game Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon used to be-pure tactical realism. I'm really stoked to see that this will be making it's way to XBLA at some point, and I hope that point is relatively soon. Here's a link to their forum with the newest screenshots: http://www.serellan.com/forums/index.ph ... lease-r105

The game will be co-op and 12 man adversarial. This has DSP old schoolers written all over it!

Fellas, the long drought of hardcore, tactical shooters is almost over. Takedown is coming to XBLA in September, and it looks to be as brutal as the GR's and R6's we all miss:

This video ROCKS.

I might be more geeked about this game than any in a long time. I've been jonesing something fierce for a return to a relentless, you'd-better-slow-down-and-watch-your-corners-or-you're-toast kind of a game since Ghost Recon: Island Thunder. And finally, FINALLY it appears we have just that. Six man co-op (hear that, Zep???), totally nonlinear, no predetermined enemy spawning, meaning no two plays will ever be alike, hard as nails...man, it makes me smile...

Man, that video is the gaming equivalent of a Rainbow Six tribute band. Nothing wrong with that!

Color me intrigued. :)

It certainly is, if you mean the original Rainbow Six, because that's what their shooting for. Original R6, original GR. It looks to be an old school DSP shooter wet dream...lol

I know I'm in the minority, because of the GTA circle jerk currently going on :D , but I'm more excited about this one on Friday than that one on Tuesday:

F*cking Microsoft. Damned game failed "certification", or whatever the hell that is, on some little bitty, who-the-hell-cares technical glitch involving an error message when physically disconnecting the router...or some stupid sh*t. Game is out on Steam, as promised, but because of MS's stupid, draconian processes, there's no timeline for Takedown's release on XBLA.

Dammit.

So, it'll be a bit longer, and that sucks. But this article should get you old guys like me fired way the hell up over this game when it DOES release:

No radar? I LOVE that. :D

Still don't know when I'll buy this, though. Money clip is cracking from recent purchases, start of fall kid sports season, travel hockey for my youngest, etc.

Trust me, I get that. But whenever it gets here, it's not a 60 dollar game. It's a 15 dollar game, and it's a game we haven't seen the likes of in 10 years. Cracked wallet or not...I'm gonna crack it just a wee bit further for this one... :D

While waiting, I think you can get a very similar and probably better game by going back to RB6-Vegas, which is now free on XBL.

I loved Vegas, and had a ball playing it. Heck, I bought it for 20 bucks about a year ago On Demand. That said, it's not similar to this one. This one is more like the original R6 games, where there was no health regeneration, no ability to be shot 6 times before you went down. Strictly one shot, one kill. And I'm sure "better" is subjective, but for my tastes, as much as I dig R6V, I prefer this old school stuff much more.

Still, anytime you wanna do some terrorist hunt, let me know.

Yep, because the PC doesn't have to deal with MS certification.

I was wrong. Takedown should be a different experience. I never played original RB6 on PC. Just RB6-3 on the old xbox.

I certainly would be up for some Vegas T-hunt. I played some random mp a few nights ago, Attack and Defend. Game holds up after all these years.

Is the price going top be the same on XBL? I really don't see my PC crowd getting into this one.

Some really bad feedback being posted from those playing the PC version: many glitches, game feels broken, horrible AI, unfinished, etc.

XBOX's certification may have saved some folks some cash in this case.
