Top multiplayer game experience of this generation
Figured it was woth doing this for multiplayer games too. And I'm bored at work
I'm not much help here as I have only recently (last few days) started playing online. But here's what I have.
Battlefield BC2 (How much better is Battlefield 3?)
Call of Duty BO2
I'd love to hear what you guys come up with so I can expand.

GoW
Shadowrun
BF3
FIFA (online clubs)
One of either CoD4 or MW2. These blend together in my head to such an extent that I can't even distinguish between them anymore.

COD2
GTA IV
Left 4 Dead
Gears of War
Gears of War 2 (Horde)
NHL OTP
Burnout Paradise (co-op challenges)

Modern Warfare 2 -- killstreaks were a brilliant addition, it had a fantastic mix of map types, and you could play successfully in variety of styles. Oh, and you could carry and activate two claymores at the same time.
Gears -- Nothing has ever been as satisfying as winning a round via chainsaw bayonet.
BF3 -- would have been my favorite if console versions had the same multiplayer capacity as the PC versions

The EASHL OTP in the NHL Series and Red Dead Redemption are my top 2 multiplayer games this generation.

MoH: Warfighter. The most underrated online shooter in my memory.
GR:FS
R6:Vegas
GoW
RDR with friends
BF3
Believe it or not...Sniper Elite. They added online play as DLC, and it's fantastic. Tense, requiring constant spotting communication. Excellent stuff.

I always thought and all single player sniper game done right could be good. Is there still good action online in that one? Also, how is the single player?

Re: Top multiplayer game experience of this generation
I popped it in for a bit last week to try to identify my problem with it now that I've got some distance from the game. I just still haven't come to terms with the changed defensive controls. I've never gotten comfortable with them and they just drive me up a wall. I used to love playing defense more than anything in the game and I just can't adjust worth a damn.Jimmydeicide wrote:NHL and Fifa hands down for me.

I loved the SP. Learn to play it on the hardest setting...it's worth it. Online, I can get in a game most nights with no trouble. If you get in a group doing team deathmatch "no cross" (meaning, there's a barrier between the two sides so that no one can take cheap shots), and set to sniper elite difficulty...man, it just doesn't get any better.

Re: Top multiplayer game experience of this generation
For me it has to be Shadowrun on the top of the list. The deepest multiplayer experience I have ever had and it is such a shame it didn't catch on. Months after release new strategies of the use of powers and powers/weapons combinations were being employed.
Another for my list is any of the EA sports games that had team play. Such a great experience.
Lastly would be the first Splinter Cell this gen. Great stuff.
Worth mentioning is Kane and Lynch. It lacked the polish to really be something special but there was something very cool about how it was played.

Re: Top multiplayer game experience of this generation
I'm with scoop. Top of my list are Splinter Cell: CT and Shadowrun. Both very different from anything else out there, and in the case of SC completely unique. I'm still pining for anything else that even approaches the asymmetrically combative gameplay of the SC MP games. Such completely different experiences from one side of the battle to the other.
And as to Shadowrun, other games which utilize different classes don't come anywhere close to the degree of differences from class to class and the resulting teamwork combinations that result.
Except Mass Effect 3's MP mode. The kinds of combos you get in that game are pretty crazy. But it's only co-op horde mode, so it doesn't really deserve to be on the "best of" list, but for me it's there because its unique and I find it endlessly fun.
I of course also really like the OTP and Club modes of NHL and FIFA. Sports gaming teamwork = awesome.
And the F1 games' online modes do a fantastic job of making you feel like you've been plunked right in the middle of a fully realized single player racing game, but with a bunch of friends scattered around the grid. It would be great to do some good f1 2012 some time (hint hint).

Crysis 2 and 3 have a multiplayer game mode called Assault that is similar to Spys v. Mercs. Stealth operatives must d/l data from terminals defended by soldiers. No respawns.Zeppo wrote:I'm with scoop. Top of my list are Splinter Cell: CT and Shadowrun. Both very different from anything else out there, and in the case of SC completely unique.
