I saw The Last Jedi for, ahem, the second time today, having already seen it opening weekend. Both times I was able to enjoy it in a Dolby Cinema auditorium (I highly recommend those). I actually enjoyed it quite a bit more the second time around. I liked it the first time, for the most part, and some sections I really liked a heck of a lot, but I liked the whole experience more this time.

It’s weird, but I think that I was able to not be bothered nearly as much this time with the things that rub me the wrong way (breaking rules of Star Wars established in the first three movies and as far as I can remember left unbroken in the mostly awful prequels, Super Leia, the idiocy and incompetence of the main military man General Hux, etc ... I could go on; but mostly the breaking of the rules of the Star Wars universe), and just enjoy all the more the stuff that I do like. I also noticed a lot more little details and stuff going on in the background with quite a bit of pleasure. Also somehow it made me even sadder about Carrie Fisher.

But anyways, while I do wish it were a better story, more complex, more weird, in a way, I’ve decided that I like it a lot, and I definitely think it’s worthy of multiple viewings. Maybe there’s something I’ve trained into myself with my childhood love of Star Wars, but there’s a pleasure for me in re-watching and I guess re-riding the amusement park ride that these movies sort of are. I do think the main three actors (Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver) are just lights-out superb, all three of them. Maybe not quite Harrison Ford awesome, :D but still, pretty freaking good.

Well said, Zep. I'll say this: I think what's missing more from the Star Wars of now vs the Star Wars of our childhood is really nothing more than...our childhood. Enjoying these for the popcorn flicks they are and not attaching so much baggage to them is a great step toward enjoying movies more.

Finally saw Solo this afternoon, thought it was a pretty good action packed movie. Did my best to avoid spoilers for the last week and was surprised at the ending. 8O

Judging by the mediocre reviews and audience score at RT, I think people are getting Star Wars fatigue.

Leave it to Disney to overdo it.

Trailer is enticing and exciting, but the problem with the new trilogy is that there's no story. It's got characters and action and fun, but there's no overarching story to speak of. I mean it's the conclusion of a trilogy and there's no direction other than "First Order just generally bad."

I would agree, the story was all over the place for the last two movies, the characters...Really intrigued with Rey’s role in episode IV.

Honestly while I will see it the Mandalorian coming to Disney+ in November looks much better to me.
