NCAA Football 13

Post by Naples39 »

Some new info on IGN regarding NCAA 13. Looks like they are trying to make dropback passing more realistic. Sounds like good changes, though I play NCAA because I like option offenses so we'll see.

Image
Dropbacks - No longer will every snap look the same. Quarterbacks are getting 7-step drops, 5-step drops and so on. EA doesn't want you holding down on the stick to try and get away from the line -- let the QB do his job.

Trajectories - Remember last year when you'd throw a screen pass and the ball would arc in the air just long enough for the defender to screw everything up? Tiburon's created 25 trajectories to get the ball to the receiver in the most appropriate way. This means shovel passes, dumps and so on. Sure, you could always choose between a bullet or a lob in NCAA Football 12, but the trajectory of the ball was always the same. Not anymore.

QB Avoidance Moves - You're going to move slower in the pocket this time around -- at least when looking to pass -- but now you have the eight directions of the right stick to move your quarterback. These little stab moves buy you time to get free and make the play.

Receiver Awareness - All those times when you'd complete a pass well before the receiver completed his route? You're not going to be doing those as much if EA has its way. This year, the icons over receivers will light up when a player is expecting a pass. This doesn't mean he's open. This just means the receiver is looking for the ball. Similarly, you can throw when the icon isn't lit up, but the chances of a catch are lower.

Read & React Defense - The days of the blind swat are over. To make a play, the defender is going to have to have his eyes on the ball. Also, coverage is going to be disguised this year. If the offense sends a man in motion, zone coverage is going to send a man, too, so as not to tip its hand.

It's April. We aren't even at 14 days of the MLB season and their NCAA news.

I know it's probably not early but it sure does feel that way.

Though like the proposed changes!

Can't wait to read complaints that the lack of the blind swat makes passing too easy. :D

If they could get DB swats, and wrap around receivers, that would go a long way. It doesn't always have to be a "kill" tackle or nothing. Wish NCAA could improve the closing down portion of the DB game.

All the info "sounds" great but with EA the game can still turnout crappy. I get my enjoyment out of trying to take a 2 star program and make it a powerhouse.

With all this new news though not once did they mention anything about recruiting.

Exactly. They really need to change how DB and WR animations interact with each other. DB's should be smart enough to put their hands up when the WR puts his hands up. If they're coming on a comeback route, jumping for a swat would help alleviate easy comebacks and hitches. Hand fighting must really be part of the duel there between DB's and WR's on every route.

I don't think they can ever really nail this, because the processing power alone would be insane. If they do, though, football games will be at a whole different level, as you can really have dominant WR's who are never truly covered. Right now, you have something similar, but it's because they grab the ball through DB's chests and crap like that. But if you have true awareness and you can throw some of those back shoulder throws that DBs don't know are coming, it will elevate the game to another level.

That, and it would make press/man coverage much riskier...a big step in the right direction.
