Comedian on video games

Post by rhymes450 »

Not sure that everybody will agree that this merits a thread...but anyway. Caught this comedy routine on TV when I was in Ireland recently and tracked it down on Youtube. I know humour doesn't always travel very well, even within the English-speaking countries, but I still thought I'd share it with you guys. Maybe a bit of language and some sexual references that could be considered offensive by some. Mild enough IMO, but just in case...you've been warned. Hope you enjoy it half as much as I did.

Now, that was very funny stuff. That Metal Gear Solid bit had me in stitches.

What makes this funny is it is so true. I work with a guy who thinks I'm a child because I play video games. Don't get me wrong, I act like a child when I play sometimes :) but I am far from a child. Many people our age (25-45, and PK :)) view video games as what they were when we were kids. I saw it first hand when I did a presentation in one of my grad classes about the depth, complexity and violence in video games of today. That's right, My video game habit helped me get my Master's degree! When I presented it to the class I showed footage of GTA 3 and you should have seen the reaction of some of the 35 year old soccer mom's in the class. They thought I was making it up! Bottom line is that anyone who doesn't play/follow the video game culture has no clue how deep and diverse the games have become. As far as my buddy I work with...he is one uptight dude so he could probably use the release from reality video games gives most of us.

Gaming is a good hobby. Beats other 'grown up' people's hobbies I've seen around the work place. These include snorting coke, doing E , and drinking too much.

I loved this clip.

Even though he makes a hilarious joke about the Wii, I do think that the Wii helped increase the mainstream acceptance of gaming, along with the crazy popularity of Modern Warfare.

Compared to most of the movies being made today, games are way ahead in terms of complexity and narrative. I'll take a game like Mass Effect over the special effects bowel movements like the Transformers series any day of the week.

Still haven't learned how to embed videos

Many years later, found another clip of a comedian on the subject of video games that tickled me. So here it is, as unembedded as ever:
