50% of Americans do not have 2k for a rainy day

I thought the economy was picking up a bit. If 1/2 of the people out there can't even come up with 2k then I think we may be in worse shape than I thought.

Economy or personal spending habits? There's a component of each in this. People walking around with smartphones spending $1k+ a year on plans, hitting the bars, going out to eat, buying more car than they can afford, etc. Yeah it suck if you can't make a decent wage, but if you can't learn to knock out the non-essentials until you have your finances under control.

I know my brother and my brother-in-law would fit squarely in that 50% not coming up with $2k. What do they both have in common? Irresponsible dispositions.

When polled I'm sure many Americans thought that their CC's available balance counted as having money to burn on a rainy day. ;)

We don't have any sense of personal responsibility anymore. Government doesn't really have anything to do with it, other than exacerbating what's already there...giving the mob what they crave.

If what I've been reading about the debt ceiling is true, come August 2nd, it may be the US government that cannot come up with $2k. Crazy.

Hobbes - I've been reading a bit about that as well. I don't fully understand it, but it doesn't sound good.
