Off Topic : New Nintendo DS Owner

Post by Lancer »

I got a Nintendo DS Lite for my birthday from some friends and it is a really cool system. Got new Super Mario DS for it and it's like having a wii in my hands. I never been a handheld fan but this thing is really cool.

What other games can the forum members recommend? I know it's not a sports system but the quality of this mario game is outstanding.

BTW... is there somewhere on the Ds Lite where you are suppose to put the pen? like a pen holder on the side? or is the pen supposed to be separate?

First off; yes there is a stylus holder slot on the back of the machine.

Haven't played my DS in a while, but just trying to remember what I played the most when I was using it quite a bit.

-true swing golf was a neat little golf game.
-contra 4 if you like that old stuff
-geometry wars:galaxies if you like geometry wars on xbox
-brain age 1 or 2 are amusing for a while
-wife used to play bust-a-move a ton
-thought star fox was pretty fun if you liked the n64 version

I´ll recheck the game collection when i get home later today.

Thread bump of epic proportions, just because there aren't many DS threads.

That said, my soon to be six year old is getting a 2DS XL for his birthday (didn't want the bigger, heavier 3DS XL)...and just looking for some easy to play games for younger kids. Any recommendations?

I got him a couple games already, Mario Kart 7, Mario Superstars Sports and New Super Mario Bros 2...which all seem to be highly recommended. Are there any other games I should be looking at?

I know it's a weird time to buy a 2DS, but my son doesn't know the difference playing older games. LOL.

Thanks.

I thought about that one but it seemed like it would be too difficult for a six year old. Looks awesome for me though so I might get it anyway. Lol.

The eShop has a game section for kids. Have you checked that section db?

Some on that list:

Yoshi Island, Sonic 2, Animal crossing new leaf, Animal Crossing Happy home decorater, Disney Art academy.

I don't have it yet. He gets it this weekend for his birthday. I may just open it up and "set it up" before he gets it so he can just go play right away so I'll check those out. Thanks!

Nice thanks. Pilotwings looks perfect for him. Golf and Tennis are included in Superstar Sports...so got that covered. Zelda, Luigi and Mario are all on my list...for sure.

Also seeing about Captain Toad Treasure Tracker just now coming out for 3DS and Switch. Not sure if that's too hard for kids, but looks tempting to me!

Oh hell yeah. I'm in on that...even if it's just for me. Loved playing that on the Wii U at my sister's house. Never had a Wii U myself.

Okay, so after about a week, here are the results in case anyone else is looking to get their younger kids a portable.

Mario Superstar sports is awesome...easy for kids to pick up and play without assistance. He likes golf the best, probably because he’s learning to play golf in real life right now too.
New Super Mario 2 - another easy one for kids to play without assistance. Probably his least favorite of the group.
Pilotwings - played for hours...loves it. Just flies all over the map and has fun exploring.
Zelda Link Between Worlds - easily his favorite game, even though he needs a little help reading the clues and getting past difficult sections. Getting better and has learned the map and can just run around and explore even if he deosn’t want to progress the story.

That’s all we’ve got so far...but the system as a whole is a hit.

Thanks guys for the recommendations.
