Exactly. He was goofy guy that seemed to realize he was playing a "game". He had some classic appearances on the Jim Rome show over the years. I bet Rome will do some kind of tribute tomorrow.kevinpars wrote: When he would do his "Lima Time" stuff, I never saw it as boasting, but more as entertaining. One of those people who added to the game. He will be missed.

What, you're wanting to buy some or something?Zlax45 wrote:Do I need to say it? Steroids??
Anyway, from a Royal BBoard. A buddy sent me this:
"When Lima first came up with the Tigers, I was working as a reporter in Detroit.
I remember me and one other guy talking with him after his very first appearance and how bubbly and positive he was about pitching and being in the majors. A few weeks later, I approached him on my own to see if I could talk with him and he patted the chair right next to his at his locker stall asking me to sit down and that I could talk with him "anytime." He felt it was a privilege to be interviewed and asked his perspective on things, not a burden like so many other players.
Lots of players do it because they know it's part of thier job, only a few have the attitude Jose Lima did.
We all know how great he was with the fans and signing autographs until the last person was gone. Say what you want about him as a pitcher, but every player could use more of Jose Lima's attitude as a person."

My uncle of a heart attack in his sleep when he was 42. I am sure with a bad diet, complete with alcohol or tobacco use, it could happen. Maybe he was on Viagra often?Zlax45 wrote:You seriously think that a guy with no heart problems in his past just drops dead without some Steroid use?greggsand wrote:What, you're wanting to buy some or something?Zlax45 wrote:Do I need to say it? Don't need steroids to drop dead at any age. Heart attacks can happen at any timeZlax45 wrote:You seriously think that a guy with no heart problems in his past just drops dead without some Steroid use?greggsand wrote:What, you're wanting to buy some or something?Zlax45 wrote:Do I need to say it? You're a genius...you figured out heart attacks! I shoulda told my dad to not do all those steroids before his heart attack. Good thing he's still alive and cut out the steroids cuz he hasn't had one since! Whew.Zlax45 wrote:You seriously think that a guy with no heart problems in his past just drops dead without some Steroid use?
People drop dead from heart attacks all the time, with no history of heart problems. Whether or not Lima used steroids and whether or not and how much it contributed to his heart attack is something nobody knows.Zlax45 wrote:You seriously think that a guy with no heart problems in his past just drops dead without some Steroid use?greggsand wrote:What, you're wanting to buy some or something?Zlax45 wrote:Do I need to say it? Sad thing is that the dude is gone and he was a monster on the mound.
Pretty much single handedly won me a fantasy baseball trophy one year I had him on my team.

This is just another wake up call for me, and a sad one to hear. RIP. This hits home as I'm also 37.
I found that my cholesterol sky rocketed since my previous test six months ago. If you would look at me, you would say "eat boy, eat!". I'm thin and could afford to put on 15-20 pounds. After hurting my back a couple months ago, I've put off going back to the gym or doing any form of excercise. My appetite increased and I was all eating kinds of crap (frozen pizzas, fast food, cookies, cakes, tons of processed foods, etc...avoiding fruits and vegetables). So, when I found out my cholesterol had spiked last week, I immediately changed my diet. Hearing about the untimely death of Lima really puts things in to perspective.
