If I were a Real fan, I would have been more concerned over the cheap $250.000 grass replacement that they played on and catch the primadonnas off guard.

That was certainly one of the more entertaining Community Shields that I have seen.

Evra's penalty attempt was terrible.

See if you can find the 1974 one online, and watch Johnny Giles carefully (Leeds no 10). For his size, he's definitely one of the hardest and nastiest players I've ever seen....Keane would not have chanced his arm with Giles in a thousand years.

New Premiership season starts Saturday - so come on people, get signed up for Fantasy Football if you haven't already (code is at the top)

Today's the day for USA-Mexico in Azteca. My viewing plans aren't terribly exciting, as I'm just DVR'ing the telemundo broadcast in spanish. At last check, comcast wasn't honoring the mun2 free preview for the english broadcast.

I will be leaving work early and popping open a beer. Might run the smoke machine so that I feel like I'm right there.

I really wish the season had already started. Having unlimited transfers till then means I keep tinkering and tinkering with my team.

I agree, I've screwed with it at least once a day the last week.

Hope he took your mind off Nigel deJong's man of the match display - or Glen Johnson's laughable one

The Azteca wins again! Not surprised - Mexico is a different team at home, and are playing better than when the USA beat them in February.

Very disappointing today for USA. They catch Mexico sleeping and get an early goal, then decide to back into their own net the next 80 minutes. Absolutely no threat of counter whatsoever. It's one thing to play defensively, but they barely even tried to get the ball past midfield after going ahead.

I know about the altitude, the afternoon game, the smog, and that the USA team was together for one day and Mexico has been training at altitude for 10+, but Dos Santos and Guillermo Franco are not Kaka and Torres. You can't concede 75% of the field and never challenge the opposing midfield for 80+ minutes and expect to get a result. It's a fine tactic when you are grossly over-matched for talent, and every now and again you can steal a game that way, but more often than not you're just choosing a slow agonizing death. The US team dug their own grave with their tactics in this match IMO.

I also have to say I am shocked Dos Santos is playing in the EPL right now. That guy goes to ground every time a defender gets within 5 feet of him. Of course in Azteca he got the whistle every single time, even when cleanly dispossessed.

What about that pass to set up the second Holland goal by Barry? That was fantastic!

One moment of madness (not that anyone had made themselves available, like) against 45 minutes of comedy. That must be what you pay the extra £5m for....

no shape, no form, no possession. A midfield with first touches like junior high teams. Same old Americans.

Landycakes has swine flu:

http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/grant ... -flu-virus

I never got tested when I was sick with the flu two weeks ago, but whatever I had was nasty, nasty sh*t. If it was swine, I don't wish it upon anyone. I was on the couch for five days, in the fetal position for two nights.

Take care,
PK

Pretty sad that our most effective midfielder for the Mexico game was playing with a nasty flu.

FSC and ESPN still haven't finalized their agreement, so if you want to see Jozy's debut, you might be up a creek.

What are the specifics of the proposed deal, Squidly? How much EPL will ESPN show in the States?

Thanks,
PK

ESPN will get the rights to the 7:45 Saturday kickoff and the 3:30 Monday kickoff. No clue about HD. The deal was announced a few weeks ago, but for some reason hasn't been concluded.
