DSP Madden Online Franchise 360 Sign Up / Discussion

Post by Danimal »

Game Time
12 Min
20 second run off.

DATES
Starting on Sat. 8/29 anyone can start making FA claims, see the rules on pages 2 or on the OF site.

1st week games start Sunday 8/30 and then we will flow into this schedule.

SIM SCHEDULE
Every 5 days

RULES
Final Rules(pdf)
http://www.maximumpixelation.com:81/res ... 0rules.pdf

FREE AGENT POINTS
Each team will have 10 Free agent points per season to use to sign free agent and make roster moves. These points are for in season moves only. If you need to fill a roster spot and are out of FA points you will be granted the lowest rated player at the position you need.

FREE AGENT BIDS
To make a Free agent bid post on the Online Franchise web site, not at DSP. Claims should go like this:

Free Agent Claim: Players name – Points Bid
Example: Free Agent Claim: Mike Wahle – 2 points

Each claim should be its own message. Once posted other league members can up your bid, a bid must stand for 24 hours to become final. All message on the site are time stamped, once the bid wins you can then move the player to your roster.

IR
If a player is injured for 6 weeks or more they may be put on IR. To place a player on IR you must first successfully complete a FA Bid listed above to claim a new player. Once you do that then simply post a message that a player that was released is now on IR. At the seasons end you can then release players to move IR players back on your roster.

TRADES
1. All trade requests with the cpu must be put in the appropriate thread on the message board. Then the league board will vote on the trades fairness. If it’s a board member proposing the trade, we will have a 3rd party vote from outside the owner division.
2. No trades after week 6 (hopefully that's part of the game code)
3. You may not trade a player back to it's original team.
4. For now no trading of draft picks outside of the upcoming year.
5. You may not trade more then 3 draft picks.
6. Empty roster spots due to unbalanced trades need to be filled with Free agents and are bound by Free agent rules (see above)

CONTRACTS / FREE AGENT DRAFT - UPDATED
There is no idea of contracts, hold outs etc. We're going to keep this one pretty simple. Before moving to the next seasons draft we will hold an ad hoc Free Agent Draft.

Each team will be required to released to Free Agency 4 players (NO KICKERS). They need to be rated as follows.

1 player rated 80 or higher overall. (i.e. a player rate 80 counts)
1 Player rated 70 or higher overall.
2 Players rated 65 or higher overall.

These are the minimums if you want to release 1 guy who is an 84 and then 3 players at 76, 79 and 82 that's up to you. If for some reason you can't meet the minimums then God your team sucks, but you have to do your best to meet them. I wo't even give an example because it shouldn't occur.

My time zone is East, and my first choice is the Redskins. I would have to think a while about a second choice.

I understand why you would want to split into two leagues, but personally I don't think it would be a good idea. I don't believe that the reason for people losing interest in past leagues is because there were too many people in the league. I guess scheduling could be easier if time zones decided who was in what league, but my experience with the WE league was that while time zone difference made it a little harder, it wasn't by far the major factor in some folks playing games while some folks did not. Of course, the huge factor in the success of the WE league was the free schedule, where you could play any game on your schedule at any time. Things will be different here. That said, the last couple of NCAA leagues that myself and then Jared tried to run had huge sign-ups, free schedules, and very few games played. So it's hard to figure out.

One question I have is, are you planning on doing an all human-team league, so that if we had 10 guys we'd have 10 teams total in the league, or are you planning on a full 32-team league with CPU controlled teams, replicating the real 2009 season? And then the corollary would be, if we are doing a reduced league, would we have a draft or not?

I guess right now I'm so unclear on what the options for the online franchise will be that I'm not sure what I think would be best.

I do like the idea of starting from 'reality' with a full 32-team league, CPU controlled teams, no draft, and so on. Maybe later on the diehards among us could try a fewer-team league with a draft. But obviously a big reason I want to play is to play games against other people, so a league like last year's NCAA Dynasty, where a human vs human game would be extremely rare, just wouldn't interest me as much.

Just some things I'm wondering about. Two games a week seems reasonable to me. I found in the WE league that five games over two weeks (deadlines were every two weeks) worked great, but again that was with a free schedule. Also, WE games were much, much shorter, even on the longest 20-minute setting, than any reasonably-lengthed football game would be. My schedule is so irregular, I might end up trying to play my two games on the weekends. That could suck.

And then there's another question: what kind of game length are we thinking about here? I'd vote for 6-minute quarters, or 7, but I never think the default 5 is enough. Anything more than 7 and you start to get into 90 minutes or more territory.

I like the idea of playing two game weeks every week. Are we going to do 5 min quarters? I'm OK with a larger league b/c you should be able to easily cut players who miss their game but a couple of smaller league could be fun too. Maybe the winner of each plays in the "DSP Super Bowl?"

Zep -

Excellent points / questions. Until we get full acces to OF some thigns are in question but let me answer nbased on what I know.

1. This is an online franchise not league, thus you will be playing hopefully 10 seasons to the whole thing is over. A 20 user league means we need like a week a game pace. A smaller league would not.

2. The OF is always 32 teams, to my knowledge you can't do a 10 team only franchise. again this isn't a league your are simulating the NFL so the other teams are CPU controlled. In theory you could go weeks before playing another human.

3. My understanding is you can't adjust sliders, so I'm thinking it is All-Pro with 8 minute accelerated clock, this seems to be the suggested time frame.

The reason I suggested smaller leagues is that you could do a 2 games a real week pace, because most of your games would be against the CPU.

I'd agree with Zeppo about having one league, as it's more fun having more games against other people. I don't necessarily need to sprint through the season, if it means more games against real DSPers.

Are owners replaceable mid-franchise? In the one rather successful online league I've ever played in other than the old WE league (unitedleagues.com's Show '08 league), the key component seemed to be strict benchmarks for replacing delinquent owners. Though hopefully that wouldn't be necessary.

I'm not trying to sound elitist but there is no way for me not to sound like a dick. I've been on this site for 5 years and I'm not sure I know who you are while everyone else on this list I have gamed with or been in leagues with.

Can anyone vouch for him?

Not to be an ass, but was any consideration given to the choice of teams from the other madden thread? I'd hate to think my primary choice made a day or two ago was disregarded because I didn't see this new thread right away

no fear Gamer...

Danimal, please put me down as the Falcons since Gamer called the boys in the previous thread. If we split into two leagues mark me down for the cowboys in one. :D
