What games would you recommend for a 7 year old?

I bought the 8GB 2nd generation Itouch yesterday off of Amazon when they had them on sale for $158 with free shipping. It's really going to be a shared gift between him, Mom, and myself. However, I'd like to download a few games he can enjoy.

He's played with an Itouch briefly and I recall there being a game like Bubble Bobble (where you have to try and knock out consecutive colored circles). Anyways, if any of you can recommend some games that maybe your kids have enjoyed, please feel free to share.

Thanks.

I've only downloaded free stuff.

SkiJumpLite is simple, so is Bloons Lite.

JumboLine Lite is a timed anagram game.

Dan:

Face Fighter. Easily some of the most fun my kids have had punching each others' lights out. Think one part Punchout, one Part Mortal Kombat (the gore is replaced by cartoony bruises and swelling on the character) and you can upload a picture of your loved ones' face to attach to the animated body and beat the pulp out of it. Your personal faces will scratch, bruise, swell, and distort as well. Really a riot!

Sheep Launcher. If you get the 'lite' version before Christmas, you will be launching Santa into the air, and try to keep him in the air for as long as possible. Simple. But fun.

Let's Golf. Hot Shots Golf on the iTouch. Great little game.

Castle Frenzy. Defend the castle gates from hordes of goblins, trolls, and sorcerers by picking up, slamming into the ground, setting on fire, feeding to the Hydra all the baddies who try to pound down the door. You can pick 'em up with your finger, then toss them into the air, slam 'em repeatedly into the castle walls, whatever. My kids think it's hilarious.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to check out all of these. How much do games generally run? Are the more popular ones more pricier?

Most hover around 99 cents, but I've seen some for 2.99, 4.99...

Thanks Teal. I googled kids apps for the Iphone/Itouch and it's overwhelming how many games there are! I'm starting to think that 8GB is going to be used up pretty quickly with music, my games and apps, as well as the kids.

That's what the lite versions are about. They're free with limited functionality.

Then they will let you purchase the full version within the app./game if you want.

Goals, a sensible soccer style game is out for .99 cents.

So far, it is a terrific pick up and play soccer game.

Maybe if you have the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G and you want to get the Touch with the faster processor to play some demanding games.

I just downloaded a very cool free app last night. It's called Traffic Rush. It's quite challenging and addiciting.

A friend gave me a $15 app store gift card for xmas and I picked up mini squadron last night - pretty fun game.

Microsoft's Bing is available in the app store as well. Consider me impressed...very sleek and nice design.

Also..have any of you guys tried Waze yet? It is a free social gps navigation app with turn by turn (voice) and traffic updates, etc. It learns your driving routes and the community improves upon the map. Worth it to check it out since it is free.

It's bascially a home run derby game but has a very addicting online component. Works amazingly well. Check it out!
Cannot find Baseball Slugger. Has it been taken off the app store?

Anyone...anyone....bueller...bueller?

Thanks downloading it now.

I also grabbed boggle a while back and battleship. They re-did battleship so it's not the same old boardgame.

Wow, for .99 cents this is a real bargain.

The controls are excellent and customizable.

16 tracks including many real supercross tracks.

Full seasons, etc.

:D

I cannot believe I am playing this on my ITouch for a buck.

Doom 'Resurrection' is now only $2 and 'classic' Doom $3. Graphics on Resurrection is pretty good and the controls do a fine job for a 1st person shooter.

Very much out now, and very much one for the die-hard, I'd say.

No racing in it. At all. There's a time trial mode (standard fare - pick a number of laps, drive them, fastest lap goes on the leaderboard) and endurance (pick a number of laps, drive them, average time goes on the leaderboard) and that's it. That bloody menu music is a carry over from the Wii and PSP game, and the sounds on-track are barely any better, the engine sounds never rising above mildly irritating

Diablo's video link is a fair representation of the graphics, though there's the odd bit of noticeable chug and judder on my 3GS. It's not, though, a fair representation of the controls, which look butter smooth in the video but could most charitably be described as 'twitchy' in use. There is an option to adjust the sensitivity, but it's hard to find the middle ground between twitchy and dead, and at lower settings there's no scope for subtle corrections. More than that, there seems to be less steering lock to play with. Getting used to the defaults seems the best bet.

If hotlaps are your thing there's a decent enough bit of leaderboard chasing hidden behind all the mild annoyances. If you've no real interest in the subject matter, you can buy better, cheaper.
