Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio) is now available in the App Store and in the Google Play store. Little steep at 5 bucks, but I'd imagine it's worth every penny.

I'll buy Vice City when it comes out next week for $5, but for everything else, $3 tops. Basically everything was on xmas sale last year too, so I presume that will happen again.

Vice City out. My new mini is the perfect size for gaming so I'll probably pick this up.
I also saw the review of Jet Grind Radio on TouchArcade, and they say the controls are a real problem for this game on iOS. FYI...

They seem fine enough for me. Controls on the iPad are horrendous for all games...so it's par for the course and similar to every other game I've played.Naples39 wrote:I also saw the review of Jet Grind Radio on TouchArcade, and they say the controls are a real problem for this game on iOS. FYI...

I'd still try it for a $1 or 2 maybe though. It's amazing after iPad gaming for a while how picky I get over a $3 difference....Like many console ports before it, Jet Set Radio employs a virtual controls scheme that consists of a virtual circle-pad for movement, and four buttons for the various actions that can be performed in the game. Some areas, such as menu selection and the graffiti editor, use strange control schemes that are unintuitive and feel off. However, in-game the controls are responsive and handle about as well as as a virtual controller scheme can handle. Unfortunately, for a game like Jet Set Radio, that's not good enough.
Being a fast-paced arcade platformer, Jet Set Radio tasks you with having to perform some pretty complicated moves. While such skills can be occasionally bypassed in some missions, others, such as the recruitment levels, make it mandatory. These situations are where the controls falter, turning the game into an exceedingly frustrating experience. In this regard, the souped-up framerate also works against the game, as it requires a level of precision that the controls simply can't deliver. While experienced veterans could probably adapt to the virtual controls enough to "get by" it's hard for me to imagine any newcomers with enough patience to succeed.

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Well I guess it comes do to the fact that I've actually played the game and have experience with the controls and can form my own opinion and don't take a reviewers word for something. If he's not dexterous enough to consider the controls "usable" which I have been able to, then that's not my problem, nor would it probably be yours if you're used to gaming on the iPad. The Mini makes it that much easier. I wonder if the reviewer was using a mini or a full sized iPad because I found virtual controls on the full size a lot harder to use because of the weight of the device.

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
All this webpage does is cover and review iOS games, and they usually don't make a fuss about virtual controls unless they warrant mention as being particularly well or poorly implemented. That's what gave me pause.
Glad to hear another opinion and that you are enjoying the game.

Been waiting for something like this for quite awhile. There's a WWII desert game from the same company in the pipes as well.

All the popular Halfbrick games are free today only. (Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride, Monster Dash...) I have wasted more time on Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride than I care to admit.

Is crazy taxi any good on the iPad, most importantly the controls?

http://toucharcade.com/2012/10/11/crazy ... azy-money/Crazy Taxi on iOS packs in all the content found in every other port of the game, ever. You can play arcade or original mode for specified amounts of time, or man up and earn more play time by dumping off more customers. Crazy Box mode offers sets of stunt challenges, and online leaderboards give testament to the world's most suicidal cabbies.
You control your cab using either tilt or touch controls. The touch controls are as good as virtual buttons can be. Sega pared the game down to four buttons: steer left, steer right, drive, and reverse, which doubles as the brake. I only needed a round or two to warm-up before I was swerving around trolleys with relative ease and driving into park benches -- on purpose. The tilt controls, on the other hand, are either too touchy or not touchy enough to give you the precision you need to whip around turns and slip in between traffic to earn stunt bucks.
I generally find iOS touch controls work fine for arcade style racing games.

Tetris at $.99 is just the right price. Controls take a bit getting used to, but fun game.

Don't believe it's coming to Android. It was a stretch for them to even make the iOS version.Spooky wrote:I can't seem to find a release date for Android. A great educational app "fantastic dinosaurs hd" is free today, normally $9. It's a pretty badass app especially for kids. It has 360 views and lots of info about dinosaurs.
